Weird Ranking slide?

After IS and Advisor bonus hit this month, I found that I had jumped from 597th to 460th on the "popular author" scale. That was nice, considering I'd taken a major hit a few months ago with the loss of Beauty. But I checked today to find that I've dropped 13 spots since yesterday. No, it's not a big deal, but I'm wondering what would cause a mid-month shift in numbers. Did something else stop being counted?

RE: Weird Ranking slide?

Yes, I've dropped out of the top 400 (although that figure was "artificial").

Perhaps epinions have popped in a new bug fix which has made the rankings figures more realistic once again... In terms of ranking, I think I'm probably about back to where I thought I should be.

RE: Weird Ranking slide?

I just checked out the lists and it has an "updated" date of today (June 12). I guess this means that people who were more prolific in their writing in the past week got to jump forward a few slots.

I don't understand

I look up the ratings and I have some for 2008 and some for overall.

I guess I'm not up the food chain enough to really have a grip on them.

I'd like to get some cool banner by my name for something. That could be fun.

I'm just astonished about what reviews of mine have gotten thousands of hits as opposed to ten over the years.

I look back at some of the really old ones. I think I should re-write several of them. I'm hesitant, especially the ones that have a lot of hits.

RE: Weird Ranking slide?

Wellness & Beauty and Sports & Outdoors have rankings again - woohoo! That's probably where things are messed up - reviews what haven't been counted for people for quite some time are suddenly getting counted again.

Rankings Not Quite Right Yet

It doesn't seem to be quite right though, at least in the Sports & Outdoors for me - it's counting a miniscule number of hits for my total reviews - it's saying I have just under 6,000 total hits in Sports & Outdoors...I've got Outdoor reviews with hit totals greater than that.

Ohhh, I'm so upset, I just went back into the top 200 after being in the top 100 for many months way before the glitches...could that have been artifical for me too, I wonder...strange, my hits continue to be good...oh well

It may be picking-up the hits only from the 'Old Catalogue' and not anything in the Shopping.com database. I have a couple reviews in Sports with about 1,200 hits that are now showing up on the Most Popular Reviews list. These do not have /review/ in the URL. Two steps forward, one back. -Dave

RE: Rankings Not Quite Right Yet

I was in the 900's, now beauty is back (sort of), and now I am 587.. but it doesn't count my biggest beauty/wellness earner at all. Weird...

But I'll take the jump!

Summer :)

Mine did a little skid too but I'm hoping to rebound with a beauty merit badge for my Harley boot reviews. ;> (ducks and runs)

RE: Rankings Not Quite Right Yet

My MPA overall went from 473 a few days ago after IS went in for May and today, after checking the Member Center & noticed Wellness & Beauty has the stats, my MBA went up to 493.

That's weird. Possibly numbers are jumping around everywhere and they will all change??

I have a few questions....

Despite the wonky-ness of Wellness and Beauty I enjoy writing in that category and have a lot over the past six months. But, in checking the rankings just now it said I am only ranked 116th for 2008 with only 95 hits. I have no idea how that could be correct since one of my reviews has 97 hits (under "Wellness and Beauty") that I wrote at the end of April. So, there is no way with all the reviews I have written and that one being higher than the total that it could possibly be correct.

Here are some of my questions though:
1. When looking at the categories some reviews fall under "Personal Care" or "Cosmetics"- are those reviews being counted for "Wellness and Beauty". And if not where are they being counted?

2. Where are the hits for Nutrition and Food and Drink being counted? They always show up under new reviews under Wellness and Beauty.

RE: I have a few questions....

Also: I have 13 reviews written since Jan, 1st in what Epinions classifies under Personal Care, Cosmetics, Nutrition, Health Aids, and Wellness and Beauty. Actually the above mentioned review with 97 hits as of today (so it probably had 95 hits yesterday) is the only one with the classification of "Wellness and Beauty".

So where are the rest going???

A jump in the right direction is good...;)I won't complain too much since my jump in the wrong direction was from 87 overall to 97, and now to 101....if it keeps going in that direction, I won't be a happy camper, so it just means I have to take a wait and see approach...

Also I wrote a review about 4-5 years ago, I'm not too sure, all that time it was listed as one of my top reviews, on my public profile page, Angel Perfume, now its gone from that list and I can't find it when I do a search..

I just checked my totals for 2008

And the only categories that are anywhere near correct for me are Magazines and Books.

I am missing 56 hits in Cars & Motorsports, 269 in R&G, Sports and Outdoors says I wrote nothing this year so I am missing 102 hits there, apparently I never wrote anything in Wellness and Beauty either so there goes another 263.

And whomever has my 1186 hits in Food & Drink could I please have those back also.

I seem to have extra's so if they belong to anyone please let me know. I have 99 extra in H&G and 77 in K&F.

RE: I just checked my totals for 2008

finally after a long search I found my review, but not on the very long list of that perfume in the category but I had find it through my profile page...It's certainly quite a puzzle to me how a review with over 20,000 outside hits can be so buried....this review must have the largest amount of hits then any of my reviews and I didn't realize it until today... I wrote it 5 years ago, boy, time certainly does fly when you are having fun...
