Updates and Bug Fixes for October 6, 2008

The big news with this release is the ability to toggle the new review editor (WYSIWYG) on/off. We've also included a bunch of fixes to the editor as well as some other site features. Please note that dates are subject to change.

Enhancements/Improvements
* We added a toggle on/off link for the (new editor)WYSIWYG
* Created an index page for advice topics
* Changed the text of content filter on profile pages
* Changed wording on "greyed out" reviews
* Removed link to site status details page

Bugs Fixed
* The "an opinion on this is bogus" message in alert emails
* Alerts sending user to main review page instead of comments, ratings, etc.
* An error when editing the short bio in member profile pages
* Broken links in category attribute pages
* Incorrect "in/out" of stock status on merchant deals
* A couple of HTML problems in the editor related to pasting from MS Word
* Open/Close HTML tag error in editor
* Grammar error in TER pages
* Duplication of product details for Media SAP

Any Improvement is welcome!

I just completed FOREVER AMBER, very, very frustrating. I'll see if the WSYWYG is capable of being toggled.

Sincerely,

Asourdough4

The following bugs are still open. They will be fixed with another release later this week or early next week.
* The "an opinion on this is bogus" message in alert emails
* Alerts sending user to main review page instead of comments, ratings, etc.

Did the update happen? I just posted a review and couldn't figure out any way to use the old form instead of the new one.

It was suggested elsewhere that cookies, etc. might need to be cleared and the site reloaded.

Also, note the toggle on and off 'switch' is in the column of notes/instructions at the right of the text entry box. Not the most intuitive of locations to my mind mind.

Writing a shoe review is not possible with editor

I spent a lot of time writing a review of a certain brand's boot. No matter what I did, I was told constantly that errors exist in having too few, or too many, words or characters! I put the review elements into my Word document and checked the word and character count, and, according to the rules of reviewing the shoes, it still won't post!

There are four "form boxes" on the submission page, with the following rules:

Title: minimum of one, maximum of fifteen words
Body: minimum of 20, undocumented maximum of about 15,000 words; fewer than 200 words is considered an "Express" review
Pros: minimum of one, maximum of fifteen words
Cons: minimum of one, maximum of fifteen words

In addition, on the second page of the submission form

Bottom line: minimum of one, maximum of thirty words

Words longer than a certain, undocumented length (probably 128 or 256 charcters) are prohibited - this often precludes posting long URLs (see tinyurl.com for a workaround)

Also note that the word-counter in the submission form isn't the same as the one found in Word. If I am not mistaken, hyphenated words are handled differently. I believe that lone punctuation marks (those without a letter immediately before or after) are counted as a word by the submission page, so make certain that you have closed those spaces (the . sound . and . the . fury. one . two . three . four . five. may look like ten words to your eye, but it's nineteen according to the submission page).
