Welcome to Epinions, Ashley... we're glad to have you here. The best thing to do is to just get started and write a few reviews. If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the General forum.

Good luck!

Welcome Ashley.

Ditto what --Bob said.

You might also check out The Epi Lounge here at the boards where the more . . .'off-topic' and personal discussions happen.

Hi, yourself, ashybaby87:

I just happened to drop in here, and I went over to rate your initial reviews.

The Advisors and others gave you good advice.

The advice they did not give, THE MOST IMPORTANT ADVICE, is that your reviews will likely not be judged Helpful, certainly not Very Helpful, until you start to revise them. That means you will not gain much readership, therefore not any income share to speak of, until you do. You have written nine reviews so far, and all are being rated Somewhat Helpful or Not Helpful. Yet you have not seen that as a clue to revise any of them.

Your most recent effort does come close to being a satisfactory review, but even that can be improved.

My recommendation is that you go back to the first review, and revise it. Give us a little scene in your own words about how the novel begins. What is the appeal of this book to your generation? In other words, what is the book really about?

Then, go to the second epinion, the third, and so on, until you reach your best one, and revise that, too. Show us the product, let us have a project that you used that paper-doll cutter for, and why you think they are becoming popular again, etc.

Finally, when you are done with the revisions, Email all the Advisors and others who gave you Somewhat Helpfusl or Not Helpfuls, and ask them to re-rate.

From now on, make it a rule to revise any review you put up after sleeping on it. Let people see that "Revised ___ __ ____." We all make mistakes, all can do better, all become better writers for our revisions. The Advisors will begin to warm to you, not see you as a chore, and continue to give you specific advice. Otherwise, they will just rate you, down and dirty, and let you figure it out because you have not followed their initial advice.

You will not make a small fortune here, but you may become a better writer, which is a valuable skill, and well worth your time.

I did not rate any of your reviews, but when you revise, let me know, and I will.

Meanwhile, let me add my WELCOME TO EPINIONS!

Alex -- Macresarf1

Hi and welcome :-)

I have been a member here since 2002 - although I had actually forgotten that until recently, lol....

I'm looking forward to supporting you in your reviews and hope you enjoy your time here :-)

I would only quiggle with a wee bit of those thoughts.

As an aside: when the day comes that I see rating and commenting as 'a chore', that is the day I tell category Leads to take my Advisor hat(s).

The other part of George's thoughts is spot on. Peeps, Advisors or not, like to see a positive response when they talk to anyone, friend, foe, newbie, kids, whomever... If you try to engage someone in a conversation or dialogue, if you try to share suggestions . . .and there is no feedback ... well yeah, that bodes ill for much future feedback.

Again, welcome to the site.

It's always good to see new contributors to the site. It's especially enheartening to see you go out of your way to introduce yourself.

On a side, (as a board moderator) it's not usual to talk about particular reviews on the message boards. (not that you brought it up) That's all cool in the comment section. There is some very good general advice to heed though.

Once again welcome and have a good time!
