Yet Another SdC Problem - This Is A BIG One

Here's one I haven't seen...

My newest review was, purportedly, moved to SdC.

Problem: It's got my title, my user name, my pros and cons, and my bottom line, but...

The review text is an entirely different review on an entirely different product...

By someone else!!! (Given the rather truncated nature of that review, I'm not even sure it is their entire review.)

Nothing of my actual review, other than the title/pros/cons/bottom line appears with the review.

In the end, this could turn into a major problem if people actually find it and rate it as "not helpful" (off topic) - something that will 'ruin' the review's value in that it was moved with few actual ratings (within a couple of hours after I posted it here) and it's something that cannot be 'fixed' with comments or emails to raters given that there is no way to know who rated it at SdC. Worse, someone might think it is 'stolen' material.

Is this a 'known bug' or simply one more "new" issue with the fiasco this 'work in progress' has turned into?

It was discussed in this thread. No official word yet. I agree - this could be a very nasty bug.

RE: Yet Another SdC Problem - This Is A BIG One

This has been happening to my most recent review. For the past week, each day there has been different text attached to my review but it is not the entire review. I did some digging and found the review that is attached to mine today was written on epinions over a year ago. I notified Christal about this problem.

RE: Yet Another SdC Problem - This Is A BIG One

When Mona pointed out your thread, I went and looked. As with yours, when I'm signed in as a member, it comes up correctly on my profile page. It comes up correctly when I click the link from my profile page. It also comes up correctly when I use the search engine while signed in.

However, when signed out, both using the site's search engine and coming in from a Google link, it shows the wrong, partial review.

I also emailed Christal directly; providing the links. Hopefully, she notes that just because it looks fine from the profile page doesn't mean everything is fine.

Given that the individual review, the individual reviewer, and the site are based solely on the credibility and relevance of the reviews, I would certainly hope that we see a quick acknowledgement and remedy to this problem. This is not one of those "known bugs" that, while irritating, can be placed low in the priority queue. Nonmembers aren't going to know (or care) about the work on the site and cannot access the correct version while signed in. They're just going to see an Off Topic/nonsensical review and move on with the impression that the site lacks credible content.

Frankly, when this was first reported, the movement of reviews should probably have been put on hold until the problem was found and corrected. The longer this goes on, the more 'problem children' are going to be found at SdC; with all that means in terms of corrections and perceptions of credibility.

Hopefully now that at least another person has reported the problem, it won't be quickly 'buried' and received the dreaded - "It's a known bug and we are working on it." We all know what that usually means in Epi-speak.

bump so the Powers-That-Be don't miss it.

You know, it might be an idea to create a pinned thread for this type of feedback given it is exactly what they asked us to do. Otherwise, this stuff just gets buried quickly; leaving those who provide such feedback to wonder if the efforts were worth it or even appreciated.

For now, I have Pinned this thread so that it remains in view. Any other folks who notice bugs and problems at SdC can put them here.

Don't forget regular channels though, ie e-mail bug reports etc. The Message Boards aren't really the official bug reporting spot.

Nonetheless, I have pinned this, the problem stated seems pretty bad!

...and now noted. I'll unpin and agree that the Epinions Message Boards isn't the official bug reporting spot, especially for SDc probs, but it does create dialog.

Let us know how things turn out.

Reviews on SDC

Quick update to the SDC review issue. We are in the process of testing a fix and should have a release out next week. I'll keep you posted.

RE: Reviews on SDC

Hi Damon, does your fix also include the problem of a high percentage of sdc reviews being grayed out? (Discussed here) Or is that a separate issue? If so, is that one also being looked at?

Hi Mona,

This is a product catalog issue. A lot of SAPs and Media products are showing up greyed out on SDC. Our plans to fix this issue will most likely take place next year.

Thank you.

I would like to say thank you to all of our members who have helped with testing and reporting bugs on Shopping.com. I know that this has been a long process. We still have a lot more things to build and thank you for your help and understanding.

RE: Thank you.

Christal:

Any thoughts on when we might start seeing hits on our reviews at SdC being credited here again?
