The Grammar Curmudgeon much prefers Caroline's usage. When used as a transitive verb, "to graduate" means "to confer a degree upon." Hence, kindergarten may graduate Tom, but Tom may only graduate from kindergarten (and 78% of the AHD4 usage panel agree with me. So there!)

Most honoured GC,
I labour to produce correct grammar and hope to be viewed favourably in that regard. As I endeavour to improve my skills, your corrections continue to be a welcome education. Spelling is also very important but I promise to not make deductions when you forget the U's.
Caroline - was brung up right and lerned to use proper English. |

Hahaha! When I came here I was just a kid and wanted to be like you all when I grew up and now look! I am being titillated! No wonder I don't get depressed when I see that a review I worked two and a half hours on netted three cents! :)

note on updates (or rather rewrites)
If you delete an old review and write a brand new review which may be needed in such categories as online, then those old hits are GONE/HISTORY.
Case in point - I wrote a review on Ebay. After a couple of years, things changed a lot. Wrote a new one. Think I did the same on a couple of other sites, but that's the most recent.
The issue here is with really high hits and then saying bye-bye to those hits on totals. I had a bunch of hits on that one. But, the reivew had cycled down so that it was not likely folks would see it and with all new data.
I could have updated, but it really would not have helped consumers. They flat would not have seen the info. Online cycles in some way with newer stuff to the top on the high hit sites.
After thinking it over, I decided to get new info out to the consumer (and likely never make the high hit total from the original). I shop a lot online, and I would want the most recent data.
Those old hit totals are gone. I don't make much on the new review, but it is current data.
If you are not seeing how this impacts, then look at the rate lists for overall (I'm 32/34--something like that). Then check the total hit numbers on member pages compared to those listed on those hit totals. You can clearly see that I would rank up higher if I did not pull old stuff and put up brand new reviews to reflect the current market.
In short, all deleted reviews are tallied on your own personal page, but they do not count for the totals on rankings.
If you're talking 100 or so hits and deleted, then it does not jump out. When you rework a biggie, then it does.
I haven't checked my page total to rank total but know it's clearly showing a gap. I still consider it important enough to give current data to can a high hitter when I think it's important to do so.
I've always known this (kidding--though have been aware when dumping high hit reviews as needed that it impacts totals). When I've put up new reviews on things that hit 1000+ hits, then it's been with the knowledge that I'd lose all those hits on rank. While some here may say that it's not cool to put up a brand new review and can an old one, I can say that it is no gain (unless gamed in some way) and can hurt. I'd be ranked higher to leave old high hit online pieces alone, they would not really be helpful in a world where a few weeks can make a world of difference.

Display your review by clicking on its title in your profile page. Once it's displayed, you should see a panel about two inches below the top on the right hand side - it's orange and has the words "Thank You" at the top. Click on the word "Update" and your review will go back to the "submission" screen, where you can change things to your heart's content.
If you don't see that orange panel, then you're probably not logged in to your account.

RE: Updating old reviews
Quote: scmrak But we do occasionally get people who churn their reviews; deleting and reposting because there's a comment or a rating they don't like. -30- rex
I just recently saw an example of this. I did not know the review was a delete/re-post and rated VH. But an Advisor NH'd it and commented on the activity. Since I didn't see the review the first time it was posted I can't also NH. Any solution when this happens? -Dave |

Umm yeah, ya can.... but consider which advisor it is who's NHing and decide for yourself. Advisors are not all created equal.. heh.

Good advice from the Doc. If it's an advisor you trust, then perhaps you should rate down (maybe not all the way to NH if you didn't see it first hand). However, if you feel otherwise, stick with your initial rating.

RE: Updating old reviews
My personal opinion on this (if anyone cares) is that I really hate to see 'rapid cycling' in which people take down recently posted reviews, make minor changes, and then re-post hoping for better ratings. I would give a review like that an SH at best.
On the other hand, if we're talking about a review that was originally posted 2 or more years ago - especially if it was a crappy review when it was new - then I honestly see no problem with someone taking it down, completely re-writing it, and posting it as a new. I understand the arguments against the practice... I just happen to disagree with making it a hard-and -fast rule that you can never take down a review and then re-post on the same topic. |

RE: Updating old reviews
Thanks for the comments. If someone didn't know the practice was frowned upon I can't see slamming them for it. It looks like the writer is pretty upset about the way it was communicated. -Dave |
