Ashleys furniture; and you thought car salemen were bad
Here in Hawaii we must wait 4-6 weeks after purchasing furniture before arrival. My first experience with Ashleys, and certainly an eye opener! One weekday morning I strolled into a near empty store just after opening, and sought out a salesperson in order to buy my new sofa that I've been saving for and anticipating for literally years. The saleswoman seemed to be a bit preoccupied since her teenage daughter was there in the store, and she was also conversing with another employee during my "deal". I was told there was a "free delivery" special promotion starting the next day, so I asked if I could participate, and wrote my $1300 check dated the next day, and she did the paperwork the next day and sent it to me. During the 15 min. making the "deal" the first day, I am absolutely certain that I broached the subject re: my old sofa being removed when the new sofa arrived. This saleswoman led me to believe that there was no problem taking my old sofa away. In the interim waiting for the new sofa to arrive, I have prepared my home for the removal of the old sofa as promised. Now why would I possibly be preparing this way, and not even worrying about removing my sofa, because I was led to believe by the Ashley's saleswoman that they would do so. Imagine my consternation on delivery day, Sunday, when I'm soooo ready for my new sofa, and the delivery folks tell me upon arrival that they can't take my old sofa away. I was livid! After all my patience, and having paid $1300, they left with my new sofa! I cannot believe that a national company like Ashleys can have this kind of miscommunication between staff and contract delivery people! You thought car salesmen were bad? Well think again, and be very careful when dealing with furniture salespeople. I have e-mailed Ashleys with my complaint regarding this matter, but I'm not sure if they will take any satisfactory action at this point. This is my first experience with this company; certainly disappointing. |
