newbie question (tried to read the member chat transcript)

I tried to read the transcript that the member center said was at http://www.epinions.com/member/?show=news&sub=042805transcript, but the link doesn't work. I am sorry if this question was addressed, but I cannot tell.

How can I get a product that I would like to review added to epinions? A few weeks ago, the category lead told me she would "ask epinions to add" the brand. Is there anything else I can do, or do I have to just wait and see?

Pete

RE: newbie question (tried to read the member chat transcript)

Not sure why the chat transcript is no longer showing up...

Anyways, yes, you just have to wait and see. Category Leads can only add products for brands that already exist. If no brand exists, Epinions needs to add it, and in the best case scenario that'll be a few months. It's just as likely it won't get added - so just move on and write about other things in the meantime.

Actually, that's a worst case scenario, Kenn. It depends entirely on the category and the type of product, but EPs can usually add within a couple of days. Some bits of the EPs landscape are far more resistant to change, but I think they're rare.

My experience has been anywhere from a few days to never. The average for my requests would be measured in months, sometimes more than a year, not days, though its definitely been better this year. But there's still too many sections in my area where brands can't be added.

I see it from the other side of the fence, too, a SAP request I sent to another CL over 2 months ago, for a brand thats not on the site, is still pending...

Given that I've been waiting for ~6 months, I respectfully disagree with you. Not that I'm complaining, since I was well aware it could take some time or never appear, but I'd consider a few months to be a better scenario. Plus, now that I know that brands can be added in a few days, then it isn't the best case, but it certainly isn't the worst case scenario either.

RE: newbie question (tried to read the member chat transcript)

I've had mixed experience, which is why I mentioned that certain places within the EPs domain seem more resistant to such change than others. My experience in adding manufacturers within my little corner of the site has been quite positive - rarely does it take more than a few days or two weeks at the outside. I'm thinkin' maybe that the CL in question

isn't on the ball and hasn't even requested a brand add
isn't communicating to you that you've requested an add in a category of products that can't be added

In view of that latter, I submitted a request to one of my fellow CLs more than two years ago, and the brand hasn't been added yet. Or maybe it has? Or maybe it was in a non-SAP-able area - the Lead never bothered to respond to my email, so who knows? Could well be that s/he never bothered to try to get it added...

My advice is to remember this when the next CL feedback period rolls around.

You sure 'bout that? According to a gmail search, I don't have any SAP requests from anybody named Kenn, Ken, or tch7 (or george, for that matter). Got one from Jason, but it's been fulfilled. Email me with details...

Adding a product...

The strange thing is that the product I wish to add is an automatic litter box (Litter Robot). The product's website is listed, and I've reviewed that (originally by mistake, (URL REMOVED BY REQUEST) thinking it was supposed to be a review of the product). It seems strange that epinions would have a review for a website devoted to ONE product, and not have a review for the one product!

Since someone will be along soon to suggest that you remove the link from your review, I won't say anything.

The Pets database is apparently a mess. The number of items that the CL can add is said to be very small, and the number of subcategories within which they can be added is even smaller.

Assuming that you submitted your request to the pertinent Lead, an email query - known in some parts as a "tickler" - about the status of the request would not be out of order. We Leads have real lives to lead, after all, and sometimes such things accidentally slip through the cracks (see above). A friendly reminder along the lines of, "Hey, there, pal - any word on when that thingumabob I requested will be added?" may be enough to jump-start an add that has been languishing. OTOH, if you've already been told that it's not possible, then your litter box is likely to remain impossible to add for the foreseeable future.

HTH,

I don't know . . .sounds kinda passive-aggressive to me.

Could be misunderstood phrased that way.

How about:

'Greetings my most imperial and generous red-hatted category Lead. If this mere crumb of a user-not-worthy might beg a thousand pardons and inquire if . . ..'
.
.
.
.
.
.
. . .Hmmm...no, maybe that is no good also.
.
.
...:smiliemoment:...

...tom...
' because a ...:smiliemoment:... always makes it 'all better' . . .!! '
.

You would think that, wouldn't you...

In all seriousness, things do get lost in the real-life shuffle, which is what happened in Kenn's case. Personally, I make an effort to follow up on requests of that type and give feedback to the requesting party. If people haven't heard anything from me in a reasonable length of time, then I have no problems with being "poked" to see if I'm awake.

I have heard (though not experienced) that there are members who submit dozens of SAP requests at a time and then bombard the poor CL with email every day asking about their status. That's clearly abusive, particularly in view of the fact that CLs perform product adds only as a courtesy. I suspect I'd soon find myself looking for the "ignore" button on my email in such a case.

RE: Adding a product...

The CL did tell me that it was possible (see my original post). I just wanted to know if there was anything I could do to help her do it sooner.. That's all.

No problem Pete..

Not in your review, but in your post right here in this thread, back a few... you put a link to the review in your post. You had no way of knowing this, but we don't allow links to reviews on the message boards. We just don't want it to become a place to swap reads. ;)

OK, I got it. I removed the link to my review.

You're right, I had no way to know. I even read the "code of conduct" prior to posting (and I just re-reviewed it) and there's no mention of avoiding this!

Oh well, it was easy enough to comply, "swapping reads" was not my intention.

Thanks again,

pete

This is kinda the Beta version of the message Board section.. things will be laid out a little clearer with the next version, plus we'll get some new toys. WooHoo! May be a few months though...

Thanks man...
