Known Bugs

Hey all,

I am going to list all of the common bugs (high level) that have been a pain for members. Please add anything that I have missed. We'll use this list, not to report bugs, but just to keep a running list that we can use as reference. Reply and I'll edit this list.

Software issues
Search
Books catalog (muze database)
Movies merge issue
Featured Reviewer bug
MPA/MPR bug - where members qualify but it doesn't show up on the profile page
Catalog bugs - duplicates, missing products
Hotels issues
International postal codes in the update member info tab
New reviews sections not consistent with number of new reviews
Random SAP bugs
Comment alerts - specifically when subscribing to someone else's review

RE: Known Bugs

One recently came up in this forum: No reply when reporting abuse. I've had this happen to me several times when reporting abuse, when I get no automated response stating that my abuse report was received.

We are probably going to stop using the e-mail system we've been using for the last 3 years and switch over to one that eBay has been using. That will hopefully help with that issue.

I don't find comment alerts to be very reliable either.

RE: Known Bugs

So are you saying on your own comments, or when you're subscribing to comments on other members' reviews?

I subcribe to comments on other reviews that I have left comments on, in case someone replies to my comment. It works most of the time, but notice misses from time to time when I've been notified of a second reply or something. I've seen others mention this problem.

Ditto that.

New reviews sections not consistent with number of new reviews

By this one do you mean the number of reviews sections is sometimes too small in the just in section (like what happens in the online "just in" section), or that some products never go through the just in list (many networking hardware items, but not all, don't go through the computer hardware just in list, so those reviews get missed by advisors)

Ditto the comments alert issue.

Advisor bubbles do not show up on coffee maker reviews.

On the Top Earning Reviews list the top line reads "The top earning reviews in Kids & Family earned over $21 in December" the month changes automatically on the 1st day of the month even though the list isn't updated until the middle of the month.

This is more of a pet peeve than a bug, but would it be possible to either call it Wellness or Health and not both. Same thing with Travel. Sometimes it is just Travel and in other places Hotels & Travel. Then you have Web Services and Online Stores & Services. News & Magazines or Magazines & Newspapers? Cars & Motorsports or Autos & Motorsports? Software or Computer Software? Can you tell this bugs me to no end?!?!?!

They look fine on my coffee maker review so maybe it's just on some specific listings.

I was talking about the latter.

It is the coffee makers that are listed as small appliances. Mine that are under the Coffee Maker listings are fine, but the two that are listed as small appliances do not show any Advisor bubbles even though Advisors rated them.

Books Category

The hatbot must be very wonky for this category. You have several TR's that have written fewer than 3 reviews in the category in the entire year of 2005 (all February '05 and earlier) and one who has not written a single product review since 2003.

I commented in this thread.

This is intentional on the part of the leads. The thought process is that, since books don't change the way appliances or TVs do, someone with a solid collection of VH reviews who has earned a TR should be able to keep the TR, even if they aren't still an active writer.

Whether or not this is good for the category or the site is open for debate, but that's the explaination. You'll often see these non-active TRs refered to as 'Legacy TRs.'

I think you got just about everything covered. Boy was I frustrated today. I went to look for my own review so I could read it to my husband since he wants to go to Kripalu with me. Try finding it - travel. jo

RE: Known Bugs

SAP-added products (and possibly some others) showing up on the wishlist as empty entries (no name, price, etc. and if you click on them they take you to the Epinions home page).

That is so annoying, especially when I can't remember what I added!

If Garrett is around are any of these bugs going to be fixed? I'm sure many others have them as well and don't know. I just happened to find it because I am going again and this time hubby is coming so I looked it up. Otherwise I would never have known. I have about 3 like that - they just don't show up. Not just in travel but in other sections as well. jo

Travel

When you say hotel issues is that all of travel. At least two of my reviews can't be found doing a search. It says "no reviews." I think I filed a bug report on the first one weeks ago. Any progress? jo

Also are people's reviews not showing up. For months now I have noticed that a review of mine isn't there. In fact typing in the name it shows 0 reviews. Yet if I find my review it shows 26. However I just read a first on that product! YIKES. jo
