“The Great Geek Write Off” Let Your Inner Nerdling Shine

[I wasn't sure where to post this ... if it is in the wrong spot Doc, delete it and I will post it some where else]

As I’ve mentioned in several reviews, my offspring are not normal. Blame that on a bad clash of genetics or ‘something in the water’ but they aren’t your typical children. When other kids were playing in sandboxes, they were using their sand toys to make pyramids. When other kids were kicking around a soccer ball, mine were more interested in combing the grass for bugs. When we moved to San Diego I hoped that living a stones throw from the beach would make them a bit more relaxed; no, instead of going swimming or rollerblading they were locked up in the garage doing experiments on cheese, watching the NASA channel or working on some geek-like project. Mind you, I am not complaining about their quest for knowledge or undying passion for numbers but I worry that they are going to look back on their childhood and regret not doing ‘normal’ things.

That’s why I wanted to start up the “Great Geek Write Off”; there are no steadfast rules to this and it is open to anyone that wishes to participate. Find something that is normally considered ‘geeky’ and give us your view of it in the form of an Epinion. Love it, hate it, have mixed feelings about it? Then get writing! Even if you sat at ‘the cool table’ in school, were voted “Most Likely To Be Found At The Mall”, got great grades without studying or considered yourself above the nerds ... there’s got to be something slightly nerdy that you can write about. A certain pen, jump drive, computer monitor, backpack, magazine, book or even your cell phone.

When To Post

Thursday May 4, Friday May 5 and Saturday May 6 are the dates that I picked for this little event. That gives everyone a three day window of opportunity to post as well as a few days to scour the underbelly of the site and find something to write about. If you can’t find something to write about then consider checking out the editorial sections or Writer’s Corner. You don’t have to put “The Great Geek Write Off” in the title since that eats up five words in the 15 word allotment of the title .. if you want to add something at the end of the review that’s cool but not necessary. What I would ask is that you email me the link so I can put it on a list on my page as well as update this with the people who participated, what they wrote about and the links to the reviews.

Thanks in advance ... I can’t wait to see who posts the most obscure review!

So does this include reviews of science fiction TV shows?

This may mean that I am going back on my word to never, ever review Finnegan's Wake.

Personally, I am fine with this.

I have suggested a place be added for Write Off announcements in the future, but it ain't here yet sooooo... this is one we mods are gonna have to think on a bit. heh.

I'ma leave this one here... with the caveat to everyone else that as long as it doesn't crazy (like very other thread a w/o thingy) then it should be ok...

I also reserve the right to change my mind at any time. HA!

You can write about anything your little heart desires ... well, that is if you consider it geeky, even a little geeky.

I agree there is no problem with this thread but have to say that if others do the same, we should treat them the same way. That means we just set a precedent for this board that was previously taboo.

But again, I don't see a problem with this post. Yet anyway.

If people start saying "Here's my entry [link]" then that will be a problem IMO.

Geeky?

Good gods, what of the MANY little hobbies of mine that I am obsessed with on a geek level should I choose from? I suppose I could use my anime reviews. I am such an anime geek... just ask my g/f!

Unless we begin to get flooded with W/O announcements in General.. in which case we simply set another new precedent.

This sounds coooooooool. (Well, actually geeky, but whatever.) It should be easy enough to find something to enter in this w/o...I might finally get that ultrageeky Phantom of the Opera review done.

(Yes, I know all the words to all the songs AND I DON'T CARE,)

RE: Geeky?

Hmm I guess games are often considered nerdy although not nearly as much so now as in the past. I'll try and get a submission in for ya.

I'll email ya, ok?

RE: well....

I asked my husband what the geekiest thing is that I do - and he told me to review Epinions.

RE: well....

Depending on when Epinions gets back to me I might be a little late getting my review in. There are multiple entries of it on the site so I put in a report hopefully it wont take too long.
