LG LST-3510A HDTV Tuner/DVD Player

Hello all!

Today I discovered that Epinions has a new forum! YEAH! Great idea, as I was unaware of the beta testing.

Anyway, I'd like to post a question, maybe some of the mods/category leads can help.

I just bought an LG LST-3510A HDTV Tuner/DVD Player combo unit. It tunes in the wonderful over-the-air HDTV broadcasts from our local networks and outputs it to my TV. It also plays DVDs and upconverts the picture to 1080i/720p/480p depending on what your preference is. It really is a wonderful piece of electronic gadgetry, and I'm very happy with it as I was able to watch my beloved Boston Red Sox win the World Series in high-definition, and I'm able to get almost all football games in high-def as well.

What would it take to get this product added so I could write a review on it?

Thanks in advance,
JC

LOL!

I saw SAP and then I saw the first post about the tuner and I thought this was going to be a thread about getting the tuner to have audio in spanish (secondary audio program)! Obviously it wasn't, yeah what he said, I think that is verbatim what howard sent me last time I emailed him about it.

Problem with LG 3510A

Hi,
I too have purchased the LG LST3510A. And I love the picture quality of the OTA reception. However, the DVD playback does not talk to my Syntax Olevia LCD screen via the DVi connection. It must have something to do with HDCP even though it claims that it supports HDCP. My Samsung DVD player with upscaling capability has no problem at all. I am wondering if anyone of you has similar experience.

Problem with LG 3510A (me too)

I have the same problem. Called Syntax and they bought the lst-3510a to test in their facility. They had no problem. Took my lst-3510a to best buy and had them hook it up to a display unit and it works fine. Problem is as yet unresolved.

LG LST-3510A

Just purchased an LG LST-3510A at Best Buy. It was an open box marked down from $399 to $359 and an additional 15% off on a two day open box additional discount. End cost was about $328 including tax. It was late last night and yesterday was the last day of the 15% discount so bought it (can return within 30 days). First concern was that they had four of these that had been returned on the shelf and no unopened ones. First thing I did this morning was try to get the remote to work with my Toshiba 26" widescreen hdtv (crt screen and no built in hdtv tuner). The only options that would work were the on/off, volume, channel, mute and option screen. Could not get the menu to work with the remote so I could change the screen size, etc. Is there a universal remote that would work with my tv, receiver, and the LG or will I have to use two remotes? Any other opinions on the use of the LG and my Toshiba would be appreciated. Thanks, Robert. P.S. Will only be using an over the air antenna for HDTV as I am only using standard calbe.

RE: Problem with LG 3510A (me too)

I have the exact same problem with the two units together.
I first tried two different cables. Both did not work, so I don't think it is the cable problem.
However when I called LG support line(the guy on the phone did not have a clue about electronics), he said the other guy told him to tell me to call the Syntax for the problem.
And when I called Syntax, I was told that this LG DVD player is 'buggy'.
So I am returning this LG DVD player, and thinking about buying OPPO OPDV971H instead.

firmware

OK, this is final. I fianlly talked to the service rep. at the LG who really answered the question. 'LG knows about the problem with their HD DVD player(the player has problem with some, or many, monitors)' The rep told me to send the unit in for the firmware upgrade, but it would take 3-4 weeks until I get the unit back.
I just spent $400 to get this DVD player. Now I have to send it back and wait 4 weeks? I am returing it to the store.

Connection problem with TV monitor

I had the similar problem. Then later I figure the problem may due to scanning methods. Originally, I was setting the output as 1080i and it did not work. Then I tried to change the output to 720p and sudenly it worked fine.

I do have another question about the CATV channels. It is chaotically organized --- for example, there are around 20 in the 89 as: 89-2, 89-10, 89-110, etc. And how this matches with the original channel settings of Comcast? How do we access them directly?

LG 3510A HD Tuner/DVD player

Got this receiver a few weeks ago and love the picture from HDTV. I subscribe to basic cable just to get better reception from the local channels but as soon as I connected and scanned it picked up about 5 HD channels which I never get before. Those channels are PBS, TNT, INHD1, INHD2, and DISCOVERY. Although the signal is about 60% but they all look great. The problem is when I output the dvd signal at 480p to match with my front projector resolution, the picture hight looked squooshed. I have no problem with my Pioneer dvd machine. Any idea?

RE: LG LST-3510A HDTV Tuner/DVD Player

HI,

I have the same unit. Called LG Customer service and they said the dvd is not an upconvert unit. My friend who recommended me the tuner said it is so my question to you is how do you view a dvd movie at 1080i. I have an hd plasma tv and can't get it beyond 480p. Is there a way to set it through the LG player?

Remote

My wife just got me this tunner for X-mas. It was an open box sale so there was no manual, cables, or remote. Not bad for $199.00. I called LG and found out that you can buy it from them for $37 dollars and some change including shipping. Not a bad price. I connected it last night and plugged in my cable. I usually only get about 20 channels, but when I ran the EZ scan it said it found 107 channels. Cool but,? Anyway I was very happy with it execept that when the signal said it was in Dolby Digital SD my speakers would only play stereo. Here is the kicker though, when I put in a DVD the player would humm very loud and then spit it back out. Thought about sending it back to LG for repair, but worried they will not honor it, since it was an open box. I think I am going to take it back to Best Buy and look for it somewhere else.

RE: Remote

One place you might try is Geeks.com, where I just bought a refurbished unit, complete with all accessories, for $159.99 plus shipping, but they have it on sale this week for $154.99. (Look under Consumer Electronics - DVD Players.) Might be a better deal than a questionable open box unit.

My unit was delivered just this morning, so haven't had a chance to hook it up yet. I'll let you know how I like it after I've had a chance to play with it. I don't really care about the DVD player, since I already have a good one. I bought it specifically for the HDTV tuner. Most models cost much more than this combo unit. The upconverting DVD and single DVI-D feed were a plus for me.

RE: firmware

I have the same problem and I just bought my machine middle of December 2005, if its a firmware issue you would have thought they would have it fixed by now. I am going to return the unit as the remote will not allow you to switch between the two formats so to watch a DVD using component and then switching to DVI (for the better picture) is a total pain and can only be accessed on the front of the unit.

I cannot belive getting a HD OTA receiver is so much hassle, I'm sure they will be 50 bucks by the end of the year.

The picture of the receiver is awesome though!

RE: LG LST-3510A HDTV Tuner/DVD Player

I'm looking for a good indoor HD antenna for a DLP projector. I will also need a HD dvd player/tuner. Any advice and help would be greatly appreciated. I'm only looking to watch HD broadcast TV as I will be keeping my standard cable service.
