Audio loss recording from Fios to VCR

I am experiencing significant audio loss when recording from Fios (I had the same problem with cable) to VCR. I have tried connecting to the VCR with coax cable and RCA cables as well with no significant improvement. I'd like to buy a DVD recorder but feel I will get the same results. Any suggestions?

I have FiOS and occasionally record from the FiOS receiver to a combo VCR/DVD recorder. I have my system set up with S-Video/RCA audio cables from the FiOS receiver to the VCR/DVD recorder and it works great.

I suggest that you disconnect the coax cable from the VCR and use only the RCA cables. You might be recording only from the coax and that will give you the poorest performance. Disconnecting the coax will eliminate that path. If you then get no audio, be sure your VCR is set up to accept audio on the RCA (aux input) connectors. The quality from that input should be good.

One other thing: Be sure you are recording at the fastest (2-hour) speed. You'll get crappy video and audio if you record at the 6-hour speed, especially if it uses the recorder's linear audio tracks.

I know that the FiOS receiver has good audio at the RCA audio outputs, and that the S-Video output is clean. The Panasonic combo unit I have does a nice job with both VCR and DVD recording from the FiOS receiver.
