Sony KDL XBR4 52 inch LCD
We purchased a 52 inch XBR4 Sony LCD TV just last year. It's now 14 months old and is behaving badly. If we use the input button to switch from "tv" to dvd's or any other component ... it starts shutting itself off & on repeatedly 15 or 20 times. It now does it even when we try to adjust the volume. It only stays on if NOTHING is adjusted other than channel changing. We are of course upset - having paid $3,000 for our first high end television. A repair person came out last week and gave us an estimate of $644 for an electronic board that needs to be replaced. We called Sony, but haven't had a response just yet.
Has anyone else had this issue occur in their Sony TV's?
Signed, Disappointed Sony Customer.

cleaning a light engine
I'm starting to see the blue cloud appear. All research points to the light engine (optical block). I have the capabilities to clean the light engine. If someone has a link to a guide, it would be appreciated. |

sony pink spots
I too bought a Sony LCD 60"WEGA. I read a thread about a year ago, and everything was about blue spots. I have the dreaded pink spots as well. I also had to replace bulb in the front of the set ($600-800 to have a tech do it).
Sony really dropped the ball on this. I realized that I always buy Sony and the stuff actually breaks quite a bit. I purchased a 65" Samsung that is amazing. Two years later it is as good as new (knock on wood,,,lol).
I will never buy Sony anything ever again...I doubt they care. |

RE: Sony KDL XBR4 52 inch LCD
How about this problem with my Sony KDL52XBR4 - the right side of the screen is slow, ghostly and the entire picture is dim. The slow, ghostly problem is as if the right 1/3 of the screen is slow to update. A picture will appear to be in slow motion as it fades away and is updated with the new display. The dim is across the entire display. I can sometimes correct the problem by resetting the tv and then running it in "vivid" picture mode with the highest brightness. It seems as if something warms up after awhile and the picture will start flickering and then become normal. A service tech told me I need a new lcd panel at $2,800. The TV is only 19 months old. Sony ECustomer Care told me that a certain problem with this LCD panel caused them to extend the warranty to 18 months. I'm asking for some relief from Sony. If I don't get it I'll probably move on to Panasonic and Plasma. |

Sony KDF50WE655 pink spots
Thought I'd done well making 3 years on the bulb but when I put a new one in the pink spots really stood out. Bad design. No more Sony for me. |

Mine started few months back in 2009
Blue blob appearing gradually and eating up the screen from bottom right corner and traveling upward. Screen is getting full with blue dots like a starlit sky. Unfortunately it started some times in June when my extended warranty with the retailer plus Sony's expired. So far no way but to buy replacement block and get it installed for around $1000 or buy a new flat panel TV set for $1200. Still debating. Did any of you have any success for getting Sony's help in this matter in 2009? |

SONY LCD Wega TV
I have a KDF-50WE655 LCD Sony TV. The set is 4 years old. About 3-4 months ago, a blue blob appeared on the right side of the screen. Plus, blue dots started peppering all over the screen. It appears to be Optical Block. I will NOT ever buy a Sony TV again! Try the Panasonic Viera TC-P50V10 - Plasma. It is highly rated and the price is under $2,000 from Best Buy. Good luck! |

Now have blue line at bottom of screen...
This TV is a real winner. Blue line from one end to the other. Glad I fixed the pink spots. What's next, a black checkerboard? This is a 4 1/2 year old $2300 boat anchor. Will NEVER buy sony again. When the lamp finally goes out , samsung goes into the living room. |
