Resident Evil 4 coming to the PlayStation 2!
Fans of the Resident Evil series were shocked when Capcom announced that its premiere horror series, Resident Evil, was to be a GameCube-exclusive from 2001 on. But it's also known that the strong ties between Capcom and Nintendo have been breaking over time, with the cancellation of Dead Phoenix, Viewtiful Joe brought to the PlayStation 2, and so forth. Now Resident Evil fans will be shocked again, as Capcom just announced that Resident Evil 4 is returning to the PlayStation 2 in late 2005. This won't be just a port either (as Resident Evil 4 is still headed to the GameCube this January), where in some form or another, Capcom says that both systems will feature their own little quirks with the game in tact. Here's a more intimate perspective on the story, though: http://www.gamespot.com/news/2004/10/31/news_6111911.html |

Is there still buzz for the Resident Evil series? |

I don't see why there wouldn't be any buzz for the series. After all, Resident Evil practically wrote the book on how to make a horror game right. |

this is a great move for Capcom. after the disappointing RE: Outbreak, this will bring back fans to the PS2. anyway, i'll be picking up both versions. |

I really haven't heard much about the series since RE 2 for the PS1.

Well, there has been quite a few big things happening for series fans. A year after Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis released on the PlayStation in 1999. In 2000, Resident Evil Code: Veronica then arrived on the Dreamcast (as the first next-gen entry for the series). 2001 saw the upgraded PlayStation 2 port of Code: Veronica. This was a big highlight for PlayStation 2 owners, as this version contained a playable demo for Devil May Cry. Then shortly after that game happened, Capcom made the shocking move to the GameCube, in announcing their exclusivity to the system in preparation for its launch. This led up to the point in May 2002 when the original Resident Evil title evolved into a next-gen remake. Later that year, Resident Evil 0 hit the GameCube as the first prequel for the franchise. After that, Capcom then announced the coming of the first Resident Evil game to go online. This of course turned out to be the early 2004 title, Resident Evil Outbreak.
Other than that, there have been some "Survivor" games (which is the First Person Shooter spin-off to the franchise), such as 2003's Resident Evil: Dead Aim. The GameCube also had a series of ports, from Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, and Resident Evil Code: Veronica X. |

RE: Resident Evil 4 coming to the PlayStation 2!
Quote: roheblius And these games have been all good?
Of the ones I've played, they were good, even great. Resident Evil 3 for the PlayStation I would have to say is a good game, though it's not the best Resident Evil out there (it's my least favorite one). It's about half as long as your average Resident Evil title, and its gameplay system is different. You basically have to encounter a new creature called Nemesis throughout the game, who is a 10-foot+ tall mutant whose only purpose is to destroy S.T.A.R.S. members. Through each encounter you have a set of options. In one spot for instance, you're at the top of a clock tower. You've got to decide to electrocute Nemesis or push him off (I think) the tower. This game also played similarly to Resident Evil 2 before it. Instead of going two ways with Leon and Claire, you're going two ways with Jill and Carlos.
Resident Evil Code: Veronica X I got for the PlayStation 2 when that came around. Not having owned a Dreamcast of my own, I was very happy to be able to experience the game. It's basically a port of the Dreamcast version, which was good for me since I didn't play it already. It continues the story of Claire Redfield after Resident Evil 2, where she's now imprisoned on a remote island controlled by Umbrella. The only differences here were that Capcom improved on the graphics a touch, and also added 10 minutes of extra story time. There was also the demo of Devil May Cry, which was an amazing demo by the way. But anyway, Code: Veronica in itself is just a great game, with some cool new monsters and bosses (and of course scares). Though, I can't remember any major innovations other than the way you had to solve puzzles by combining items.
Resident Evil for the GameCube I think in very high regard for the series. Here, Capcom remade Resident Evil not just with new graphical details, but with entirely fresh gameplay areas. This game is Resident Evil again, except remade. You could now explore the mansion in parts you've never seen before. Not only that, but both Jill and Chris have new tricks up their sleeve with Jill's ability to stab zombies with daggers to the head, or Chris's to stuff a grenade in their mouth. But probably the best part is that there's new Crimson zombies, or super zombies as I like to call them. These zombies now run faster, and are actually zombies you kill but didn't burn (if you don't burn their bodies, they come back to life). Let's say you shoot a zombie dead, and he doesn't move. Come back to the room later, and you'll find him returned as a super zombie that can both run and scratch you. A lot went into making this newer RE game really, really good.
Last of the games that I've played was Resident Evil 0. Resident Evil 0, like Resident Evil for the GameCube, has the "next-gen" appearance to it. But, it also has a whole new format in which to play the game. You play as Rebecca Chambers from Resident Evil (for the first time) and also Billy Coen, an escaped war hero turned convict. What's cool about the game is you can play as both characters at the same time (which the computer controls the one you're not using), but also separately. Both Billy and Rebecca will get split up, so you essentially have to solve puzzles working together. Item dropping also was made possible here, as there are no longer storage boxes.
I haven't played Resident Evil: Outbreak or any of the First Person Shooters in the series. However, various sites have given these games 6's and 7's for the most part, so I don't think I'm missing too much. These other titles, though, are all worth checking out if you have the time and money to do so. |

Resident Evil selects Revival
As the way it goes for some games, the Resident Evil series is getting HD updates this Fall on both Xbox Live and PlayStation Network. Specifically, these remastered editions will be for Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil CODE: Veronica X.
Both games will feature trophy/achievement support... or at least, it's been confirmed so far that Resident Evil 4 will. Slight visual enhancement looks to be the key reason to buy these games again, in case you haven't already enjoyed them the first time or RE4 on the Wii just a few years ago.

I'm praying that they update the controls in RE4. Please allow us to walk and shoot/reload/change weapons. |

Resident Evil operates Raccoon City
In other zombie news, Slant Six Games (makers of SOCOM: Confrontation) are bringing Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 this Winter.
This will be a four-player cooperative game, from the sound of it, which sounds as if it'll be online multiplayer-based and be in the style of a Resident Evil: Outbreak follow-up.
You'll earn experience as you go though the game, where zombies can track you by sight, sound, and smell. The story is also based in 1998 where familiar faces of the series will be around... although, you won't control them. There's going to be new characters to play as.
It sounds somewhat interesting to me. Although, the first multiplayer-based Resident Evil didn't do too well, from what I remember.

RE: Resident Evil selects Revival
Revving up for the Resident Evil 4 and Veronica downloadable updates? The wait will soon be over... with both releases due at September's end (the 20th and 27th, to be exact).

RE: Resident Evil selects Revival
What are ya paying for the remakes? $20 or 1600 points. I'm not sure if that means separate or a single figure, however.

RE: Resident Evil selects Revival
An interesting tidbit for PlayStation Plus members is that Capcom's celebrating Resident Evil's 15th birthday by letting them have the HD updates to Resident Evil 4 and Code: Veronica for half off.
More so, Resident Evil 1-3 PSOne Classics will be available to download and play for free for two weeks. I'm thinking this may not be a Plus-specific package as the story doesn't say (though, I could be wrong).
