RE: Reply 2
Quote: kjell1979 I initially thought of that too except what if PS2, Xbox, and GameCube games continue to be released for another year? What if the PS3 and Nintendo revolution get pushed back past March or April of 06? If the message board reorg is a summer of 06 project then I definitely agree that the console categories should probably be renamed to simply Xbox360, PS3, and Nintendo Revolution. Otherwise, it's still a sticky wicket. However, the question is, how easily customizable are these new message boards going to be? If it's a simple 15-30 minute fix to rename the boards and move around some posts, then this is all academic anyway.
I think it'll be sooner than summer of '06, but not as soon as next week... hows that for a guestimate? heh. From what I've seen andheard, I'm hoping for this winter. I could be just being optimistic though...
But, I'm havin one of them there blonde moments, so help me out here... having one heading for console systems. I'm not getting the problem with when new ones come out making a difference.. I mean, the main thread thingy would be Consoles, then within that folks can have threqads dealing with specific console incarnations... Not trying to be obtuse, just really not understanding here and asking for further enlightenment. You guys know way more about these consoles and games than I ever will.

RE: Reply 2
My suggestion wasn't exactly to focus exclusively on the individuality of Xbox 360, PS3, and Revolution threads, or opposite of that a single thread that blends all consoles together (even the upcoming ones). I'm saying it's best to give both of those worlds in some sort of way. The Xbox 360 is launching this fall. My guess is that the PS3 and Revolution will both follow in the fall of 2006. The tentative spring date Sony claimed, most are looking at as the Japanese launch (since Sony never specified what they meant). But, the issue I'm stressing here is that we shouldn't wait until these consoles come out to launch their respective threads. It'd be best to arrange it so that there are threads available for these systems. That way we could hold discussions about the upcoming systems and their games put in the correct places instead of keeping them separate in unrelated threads.
But going with the idea, it could be feasible to stick all console-related stuff into one category, then have all PC stuff in another, then have all handheld stuff in another, and then there'd be all the remaining threads like advice for writers, cheats, the what's new in games one, and the forum suggestions. But the question with that is, would it be best to combine the classic thread with general consoles? The classic thread could pertain to PC games too, so I wouldn't say so. |

RE: Reply 2
I think I see where the communication problem is.. its with terminology, and 100% my fault. DOH!
What I'm saying is the titled thread on the front page when you come to games...
PC
Console
Handheld
cheats
Classic
etc...
Then, under console, we can start Topics with the individual consoles if we want... don't need mods or engineers to start new topics.
Am I any clearer today or do I need more coffeeeeeee?

I get what you mean Doc, I think. That's what I just talked about in my last post. You can name a single thread "General Consoles" and discuss all the upcoming or current systems within there. The same can be done for PC and handhelds. With the PC stuff, you could list this as a thread to discuss PC or Macintosh titles. With handhelds, the PSP, DS, GBA, N-Gage, and so on could all be crammed into one general Handhelds forum. It'd save space from creating multiple forums for each system. |

The argument could be made that there would end up being too many topics like that in each thread.. but I also believe that we just might get our message alerts in the new version, so folks could choose to get alerted to new posts in whatever topics they want to watch so that would help that immensely.

RE: Reply 2
Why don't we just have the separate Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Revolution threads made then, and then have the PlayStation 2, GameCube, and Xbox ones all combined into another? Then we could have the classic console thread too. Then we could combine all the handheld stuff and PC stuff into another. Then there could be the New in Games one, thread suggestions, advice, and the general games thread too. |
