IF you are looking for an alternative to replace wood cedar shakes, DON'T buy these. We did and they turned green in 3 years. Cost was about $190 a square,, and were supposed to have a 50 year warranty on them and were supposed to be maintence free. Called RE-new wood company today and they told me to power wash the roof, and told me it was my problem. Our roof is a 12 over 12 pitch (very steep) A-frame. I guess we got screwed. Hope this helps someone else from considering buying these shingles.

I roofed my new home with Eco-Shakes by Re-New Wood and within 3 years they had a chemical reaction which created acid that ate holes in the aluminum gutters. I had to replace the gutters at a cost of $2800. They denied all responsibility and wouldn't offer a dime to help. My advice is to avoid this product!!

We roofed a 3,600 square foot home with Eco-Shakes in 1995. A family down the street liked the look and roofed their house with them as well. Both houses used the reddish brown color. Both homes look perfect 14 years later and I am totally satisfied.
