You say SEN-see-oh...

...and I say sen-SAY-oh.

Actually, it's the other way around. I've been pronouncing "Senseo," the name of the fancy new coffeemaker from Philips, as SEN-see-oh. However, last night I saw a commercial for the Senseo where the sultry-sounding woman with the Euro accent kept calling it sen-SAY-oh.

How have you been pronouncing it? Or should we just call the whole thing off??

RE: You say SEN-see-oh...

I've been saying Sen-SAY-oh, and I think I heard it somewhere.

That's almost as bad, Bob, as I did on UNIDEN. I went in the store and asked for yew-nigh-den and found out from the clerk that it's YEW-ne-DEN.

Oh, well, what's in a name, huh?

I'm with you, Bob, when telling friends about the Senseo, I said "SEN-see-oh" and the commercial set me straight.

I did get a laugh from the lovely folks at Sen-SAY-oh when I called to ask if they were going to sell Douwe Egberts coffee on their web site. The poor guy who received my call must have wet his undies over my "dewy egg-burts" question. It's "dow aye-beart with a short "t" and no "s".

Who'd a thunk?

RE: You say SEN-see-oh...

Sheesh... they might be able to sell Douwe Egberts stuff for a high price with that pronounciation but they'll never get Americans to pronounce it that way!

RE: You say SEN-see-oh...

Helen, do you drop the EGG on the Douwe Egberts?

It seems to slip somewhere - Dow-aye (Douwe) Beart (Egberts)

Seems the French dropped an egg somewhere there. Interesting. Thanks.

Lorace

ps I liked your Dewy-Egg one best.
