Knitting?
Any Epinions knitters out there?
Any recommendations to a newbie knitter about needles, yarns, good online places to find yarn?

Knitting
Sorry I didn't see this sooner! I love to knit! My all time favorite needles are made from bamboo, they come in all the sizes, and are so much nicer than metal needles.
They are quiet and the yarn doesn't slip off as easily. As far as where to buy, I get most of my yarn at Michaels or JoAnns when I can redeem those 40% coupons. They both have nice selections and are MUCH cheaper than what is sold in a yarn store. Ebay is also a good way to get cashmere, alpaca and other expensive yarns at a good price.
Hope this helps!

RE: Knitting
Hi Sue!
Thanks for the recommendations!! I tried using an aluminum needle and really didn't like the feel. Now I have a set of plastic (Lion Brand) needles because they were on super sale and also a pair of bamboo needles (my favorite!!). I really like how the bamboo feels and works. The plastic is nice too, but I find that my stitches slip easier on the plastic.
I have been purchasing yarn from Joann's. There isn't a Michael's nearby ... The yarn store that I visited had really, REALLY expensive yarn.
I'm currently making a skinny scarf with a farrow rib stitch. :-) I've graduated from the garter stitch! Heh.
Thanks for the info, Sue!! :-)

RE: Knitting
There are a lot of online stores -- just remember you'll have to deal with shipping. Herrschner's is my favorite online store (they also have catalogs). The advantage of going online is that you have a better color and fiber selection, and you can be assured that all your yarn/thread will be from the same dye lot.
I mentioned in your post about crocheting that I've been a knitter since I was 11. When I discovered wooden hooks, I was in awe! My favorites are the Brittany Black Walnut line. They're lightweight and do a good job of holding on to the stitches till you're ready to release them. They're fragile in smaller sizes, though. I had a pair of Size 4 needles snap on me. |
