Where did the reviews go?

I used to log on here occasionally to post a review of something I had recently bought, to read reviews of products I was thinking of buying, and read the experiences of others who also owned the same product. I came here today to do just that but I have been unable to find *any* reviews of anything. When I do a search for a product (moen in this case) I can find a zillion ads for places selling their products but no reviews. If they exist they are pretty well hidden these days. Did this site perhaps just become another Ebay/Amazon or such rather than a reviews site?

RE: Where did the reviews go?

Unfortunately you've run into our Achilles's Heel. The site's Search Engine now borders on totally useless. If you're up to it, try using Google in the following manner. If you want to find reviews on Moen faucets enter into the Google search box:

Moen faucet,reviews,site:epinions.com

I know it's a pain in the butt, but you will turn up the quality reviews you're used to reading.

Hmmm. It doesn't seem to me like it would be terribly difficult for them (epinions) to place a google search box on their front page to do just what you described can be done by hand. Is the goal to just get out of the review business and become just one more of a zillion shopping sites?

RE: reply

As Rudi said, the search engine on Epinions has been a weak spot for several years, and many of us have also made the same Google suggestion. In one such discussion (at least three years ago), someone from Epinions said that it costs them to use Google's search engine on the site, and that's why the site has its own home-made search.

Yes, using Google's search would be easy, but it costs more. And that's what we have been struggling with for years. You don't have to tell me about how much less frustrating a Google search tool would be -- almost all of us were convinced of that years ago.
