Sleep Number Beds

I would like to hear from others who have made the plunge to buy "The Sleep Number Bed" from Sleep Comfort.

I purchased the Queen Size 5000 with Wireless Remote, Dual Chamber bed.

I bought it about a month ago and my husband and I are finally getting used to this bed. There are Pros and Cons to this bed but I think after fooling around with the sleep numbers and sleep positions, I think my husband and I have finally found our sleep numbers and we are sleeping better then when we first got the bed.

The first few nights were simply horrible. Until we knew what we were doing with the sleep number control, we almost called customer service to get rid of it. I think it was a smart buy but expensive. Will this bed hold up for 10 plus years?

are there any other options??

My husband and I just bought a new mattress after suffering on a bad mattress. We were surprised to learn there were so many different options when it came to a mattress. We ended up buying an inexpensive somewhat firm mattress. After a week of sleeping on it, my back began hurting and now consistently hurts every night when I sleep on it. My husband is having no trouble with it at all. After visiting the sleep number store today, we learned that the reason is because I sleep on my back and need a soft mattress while my husband sleeps on his stomach and needs a firm mattress to support him. Without forking out the money for an expensive sleep number bed, are there any other options for us that anyone knows of? We already have a memory foam topper on our bed but it doesn't seem to help me any.
Thanks for any suggestions!

AVOID Sleep Number Beds

I bought a queen dual control pillow top sleep number bed ($1,600) and tried sleeping on it for 7 years. I never did find my number. My husband thought it was okay, but I had back aches every morning. I tried putting a good foam topper on it, but that didn't help. We finally got rid of it by selling it on e-bay. We bought a Stearns & Foster mattress and it is absolutely heaven! The most comfortable mattress I've ever slept on anywhere. Well worth the investment. It's guaranteed for a lifetime and best of all NO MORE BACKACHES!!! It gives you proper support no matter how you sleep. I sleep on my back and my husband sleeps on his stomach and side, and it works great for both of us. DON'T waste your money on a sleep number bed!! Stearns & Foster was on the pricey side, but what is your back worth?????

RE: AVOID Sleep Number Beds

Interesting! Thank you.

Are we going to read your review on Epinions about this bed?
I'm not sure if it's on the database, but I hope so.

Sleep Number Beds

Actually, there are several of these Sleep Number beds listed on Epinions and available for reviews. You can see the list of models at www.epinions.com/hmgd-Home_Furnishings-Mattresses-All-Select_Comfort_Ultra_Mattress/display_~reviews

Notice that the manufacturer is "Select Comfort" and not "Sleep Comfort" or "Sleep Number."

I've been told that a detailed and well-rated review of a mattress can earn decent income on Epinions. Like Lorace, I encourage anyone to write a thorough review -- positive, negative or neutral -- and let consumers benefit from your experience.

RE: 5000 Select Comfort Sleep Number Bed Proud Owner

Although we appreciate your input, a lot more people would see what you have to say if you found the product using the Epinions home page search function and wrote a review of it. Hope you do.

Again, thanks for the information.

RE: AVOID Sleep Number Beds

We've had a Sterns and Foster (very expensive) mattress for 5 years and it is worn out already. When we first bought it, it was heavenly. Even though I rotate the mattress regularly it has indentations on both sides for where we sleep. I'm now shopping for a new mattress that will last longer than 5 years.

Horrible experience...

My fiance and I stayed at a hotel that had a sleep number bed and it was the most uncomfortable thing I'd ever slept on. Now this is after living on an aerobed for the past month while interning for a firm in another city so I would think that anything would be more comfortable, but I couldn't find my number in the 2 days I was there and had the worst sleep both nights. I can't believe I actually missed my aerobed...

Sleep intelligence.

There are 5 different sleep number beds. Which one did you sleep on?

There are 20 different sleep numbers to choose from. If you haven't gone into a Select comfort store and found your sleep number, you probably slept on the wrong number and then complained about it. I've slept on a 7000 model for 3 years and I love it. If I sleep on anything else I can really tell the difference. If you are going to buy a SNB you should pay a store a visit and understand what you are buying and try it before you buy it. The Sales guy at the store here in the Wolfchase mall of Memphis made it easy to find my number and had a pressure computer to show me where I had pressure and support. It was nice to see how the bed was helping me. I ended up being a 35 and have been one ever since.

I love my bed. Hope this helps.

Sleep Number 4000

We bought our Sleep Number bed 4000 from QVC and I will never go back to an inner spring mattress again. I think the initial trick is to find which number works best for you, but after that it's sweet dreams. I definitely have experienced back pain relief, and sleep more soundly. I'm sure not one mattress is right for any one person, but I have never had an inner spring that stayed comfortable after just a couple years of use, not to mention that one sleep partner has to compromise on what feels comfortable for them on a conventional mattress. As far as the posts about mold inside the mattress...Mold and dust mites can exist in ANY mattress and for that reason, one should use a mattress protector that zips closed and provides protection against moisture and dust mites. I'm certainly satisfied and think that the cons that have been mentioned are somewhat exagerated.

sleep number bed by select comfort

I purchased a sleep number bed about 11 months ago, a twin size fully adjustable. Two months after I purchased this bed it began to sag on the side I get into the bed as the other side is against the wall. I called my salesperson as she is a personal friend as well. She came to my house and put a level on it and she too agreed that it's sagging. Then she told me to contact customer service for them to take care of it. I didn't do that as I bought it from her, she is (was) a friend but she kept telling me to do it. Well today some 9 months later I called customer service. They said they would send me out a foam side cushion and for me to un zip the mattress and put it in. I said why not send someone out, I don't want to do any thing, they said if I wanted a technician to come out it would cost me 75 bucks. I didn't like that either so I asked them to go ahead and send the foam rubber and I will try the repair my self. If this doesn't go well the next step will be small claims court. I have to say I sleep well in the thing and it is very comfortable, but it sags and also has a sag in the center. I am not sure it's worth what it cost but I do like it. I think there customer service leaves a little to be desired but other than this I am glad I bought it.

This is a well balanced review of your Select Comfort bed. This kind of information would be more valuable if you actually posted an Epinions review of your bed and your experience. If it is rated as H or better (and is over 200 words long) after you write it, it could also bring you a few pennies of income (emphasizing a few pennies here).

The list of Select Comfort beds avaiable in the database to review is here: http://www.epinions.com/search/mem_search_~0/search_vertical_~2522498/no_skip_~1?search_string=select+comfort

I hope you take a look and find your bed there along with a desire to review it and the service for others benefit.

Sleep Number bed & Mold

My husband had a Sleep Number bed when I married him 4 years ago and night after night I would sneeze and suffer from breathing problems. When I'd go visit family I never had these problems. Recently I decided the Sleep Number bed must be full of dust and had to go because I've tried EVERYTHING (vacuumed all the time, washed blinds, washed the curtains in our room repeatedly, washed the linens two times weekly... you name it)!

Early one morning, I got up with the goal of buying my husband a new Sleep Number bed locally and getting rid of his old one. After researching online I found all types of info about mold in these beds. When my husband got up, we looked at the inside of the bed. On my side we had a patch about as big as my hand. Needless to say, the old bed is gone and we now have a new, normal mattress.

RE: AVOID Sleep Number Beds

I'm not sure this is a real opinion... Sounds like this is a salesman for Steares and Foster to me. I'm getting frustrated trying to decide on a bed.

Now that is scary

Did Bob the moderator really say,

"I've been told that a detailed and well-rated review of a mattress can earn decent income on Epinions."

So.......if I have a modicum of writing skill, I can pretend to have tried out various beds and make money writing reviews? Gosh....that's great, that means the site will quickly turn into a bunch of advertisements (a.k.a. 'lies') instead of reviews.....

In fact one 'review' sure sounded a whole lot more like an ad than like a real review to me, (hints include making zero real negative statements about the product, and over-zealous "Best EVER!" type endorsements).

For an epinions representative to publicly declare that the reviews are now useless.....well that is disappointing.

Well there is an upside. Who do I contact to start earning an income inventing 'reviews' for the highest bidder?

I guess it is possible to do that if the writer is good enough to fool several raters who have years of experience deciding whether a review is genuine or not. I'm sure it has happened, but who would go to that trouble to earn a dollar or two a month, for most reviews much less?

Since the earnings are the same whether the review is positive or negative, what is the incentive to lie about one's experience?

Bob said "detailed" and "well-rated". I think you might be thrown off by the "well-rated" part of his comment. What he means is not that the review rates the mattress well (as in a positive, five star review), but that the review itself is given a Very Helpful rating by the other members. A fake review might slip through now and then, but for the most part, loyal members are on the lookout for fakes and will sound the warning far and wide when they smell a rat.

All you have to do is be a member of Epinions and write full reviews. (The review you've already written is called an "express review," and they do not earn money. Only "full reviews" earn money, which we call "income share" or IS.)

Go to the listings for mattress reviews here on Epinions and write away. Reviews with the best ratings by fellow Epinions members are the ones that are most likely to be read and therefore make the most IS. To get a highly rated review, be sure you give lots of solid opinions about the product, such as your thoughts on the mattress' comfort, weight, ease of cleaning and care.

If your review gets good ratings (at least "Helpful" but preferably "Very Helpful"), it will earn money every month. The typical "Very Helpful" review on Epinions earns perhaps five cents per month but a strong review of a popular mattress can earn a dollar per month. If the stars align and your review is very popular, you might earn $2 per month on your review.

Good luck!

RE: Sleep Number Beds

I bought a king pillow top sleep number bed just about 3 years ago. Like you, I was initally happy with the bed after finding my sleep number. It is an expensive bed and I was concerced about durability but was reasured by the "20 year warrently". Well, 3 years later I am very unhappy with the product. Just after the real "2 year warrently" expired I had my pillow top mattress start to fall apart and had to be replaced. 9 months later, one of the digital readouts has stopped working. This repair is going to cost over $150 (prorated price per warrenty) This is very pricy after owning the bed only 3 years. Customer service explained I didn't need to replace the readout. But then how can I adjust the sleep number? The company is very unrsponsive and does not seem to want to stand behind it's product. I have a friend who purchased the same bed and her air pump went out after 6 months. They replaced it because it happened within 2 years but I'm getting the feeling this expensive bed is going to get more expensive. Apparently these repairs are only 10 percent of cost to me. What will repairs cost in another 2 or 3 years.
