On the other hand...
our SCC658 has an extra lid and TWO extra inserts--given that the heating unit died during the first use. No lights, no heat, no nutin'. I hope to hear from 'crockpot.com' but DW is not happy with her first experience. I don't dare tell her about the exploding lids(or DO I?). Thanks for the info on this and other products. I've been a member for years but this is my first visit to the MB. Cheers. |

Bravetti Slow Cooker Lid Cracks Up
Hello, Everyone,
I was reading the epinions about the various lids for slow cookers and something similar happened to me today. I had taken some food to work today and kept it in my slow cooker to keep it warm. At the end of the day, I washed the pot and lid completely and dried them. As I was putting the pot into my car on the seat, I don't know what happened because I thought I was being gentle, all of a sudden I heard a crack and the lid just broke into hundreds of little pieces. Believe me, the pot was not cold nor hot. This incident happened hours after the pot had been washed! I, too, was looking for the manufacturer on line to see if I could order another lid, and alas! No Bravetti site. Thanks for letting me know that I'm not alone out there. I'm so dissapointed because I hadn't used the slow cooker except for a few times.

RE: Rival lid explosion
My Rival 37551 lid also exploded. Once again, normal usage with room-temperature ingredients. The explosion was actually very well contained, with almost all of the glass ending up inside the ceramic bowl, and he glass also seemed to be well tempered so that it broke into reasonably safe chunks.
I had the cooker for one or two years, and I think this was the first time I used the high setting. |

Ceramic Insert Exploded
I justed returned from surgery to repair a severed tendon in my left hand after my Hamilton Beach slow cooker ceramic insert literally exploded while I was washing it. The bowl was cool to touch and I was washing it with hot tap water using my bare hands. As I was turning the bowl it simply shattered, scattering razor sharp shards everywhere. This was the first time I used the cooker and will address the issue with the company shortly.
Has anyone had any problems with the ceramic bowls breaking?

Slow Cooker Lid exploding! BEWARE!!!
I have a Rival scv401 slow cooker. I had cooked chicken wings and set them in the slow cooker. The cooker was on low heat for about 30 minutes. I went to take the lid off and it exploded in my hand. The lid did not touch anything or bump into anything. It just exploded. This is a very dangerous thing to happen. When I called Rival about it all they would do was replace the lid with the same type of one. Doesn't a glass lid seem sort of dangerous anyway??? Also on low heat things will come to a boil in this cooker. Not very well built and the company was not a very big help. |

My Bravetti lid shattered today
I just had a terrible (and scary) experience when my Bravetti slow cooker lid shattered into a million tiny shards while I was preparing a meal for my family. It had been on low for about an hour. Both of my young children were in the room, and the only reason glass didn't reach them is that there was a cabinet above the counter that took most of the impact. I'm furious and upset that my kids could have been hurt. There is glass across the room that I'm still finding despite many sweeps and vacuums. Most importantly, I want the company to know that the problem IS NOT resolved! I just purchased this product and yours happened almost two years ago! Could you send me the contact info that you have for them please? With thanks! |

Who is the "you" you refer to? I can't tell from reading your post. To make clear who you refer to, use the "Quote" link on the right when you reply to a specific post in this forum. That way, it will quote the message you're responding to and we will all understand your question much better.

kenmore 81179
The lid for my slowcooker also shattered.... and I was looking up how to order a new one when I came upon this discussion.
I had washed the lid and my friend who was drying the dishes slid a plate out from under it and it was jostled a bit and just shattered. Until I read the other posts here, I thought it was my friend's carelessness to blame, but it appears that these glass lids with metal bands aren't the best thing to use with a slowcooker, so I think I'll not even bother getting a new lid and just use foil.
But does anyone know the contact info for Kenmore about getting a new lid? I want to find out all the same. |
