do not buy a sleep number bed

Hello I am writeing to tell everyone about the sleep number beds ups and downs. My wife and I ordered a sleep number bed just last month oct. 24 we recieved it nov.1 it did come quickly. this is an ( up ). We set it up that night and I noticed right away the bed had an odd shape the pillow top did not fit square on the bed it came in 2 in. or more on all sides makeing it ugly and slopeing down on all sides (this is a king size bed by the way). We slept on it and strugled to find a sweet spot.these things are a (down). ofcourse we tried it a couple of nights but still could not find that sweet number infact they all felt the same below 40 just lower in the bed. Anything above 40 was too hard. Also setting the bed below 20 and your knees hit the bottom. Anyway We still had to deal with the pillow top issue, Since we found no sleep number that worked and the bed was deformed we thought it's time to return this bed. so we called to complain and they wanted pictures so I took some (about 10)They agreed I had a deformed bed BUT would not deal with the shipping costs to return it. They do offer you a thirty night rest test period and if you are not satisfied you pay to ship it back. if your bed is deformed you pay to ship it back. It cost me 300 dollars to ship it back. and some places were as hi as 900 dollars like the shipping co. that brought the bed to my house,or better yet the co. that sleep number store uses.this to me proves that they are selling a product not as advertised. If it was you would think they would back up there claim to selling the finest bed ever made . IT is not the finest bed you'll ever sleep on it is an air bed and it feels like one to me. My advise to anyone planning to buy a new bed (Sealy)(Stearns&Foster)(Simmons) All make a wonderful bed But DO NOT ORDER IT ON LINE BECAUSE NO-ONE RETURNS FOR FREE AND FREIGHT COST ON BEDS IS OUTRAGEOUS IF YOU FIND YOUR NOT HAPPY. I found this out the hard way Buy a bed from a store near you.

Online people trip me out.

You bought a bed without trying it? Why didnt you go to a store and find your sleep number first? Also it sounds like you put the bed together wrong if it was deformed. You should have just payed to have the sleep number technicians come set it up for you they know what they are doing. Well, when you try to save money, and cut corners you pay the price in the end.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Personally, I would rather buy a mattress that didn't require a special technician to come to my home and make it comfortable for me.

I can't imagine that scenerio, Joyfulgal! And I so agree with you on this.

Nor can I imagine ever buying a bed or mattress online!

But that's what keeps the world turning, isn't it? Everyone has a personal opinion and that's good!

I hope you found a bed you like....

Oh please.

I am a sleep number bed user and absolutely swear by it, especially as a nurse who suffers from chronic back pains from heavy lifting on a daily basis. The bed is anything but hard, even at sleep numbers well over 50. And yes, at 20 I would suppose your knees would hit the bottom, but then again, if you are for some reason, on your knees in bed, you should probably adjust the number a bit higher. (We won't go into that one any further). As for shipping, the UPS charge was $55 in total for my queen size sleep number which I ordered direct from QVC. The return shipping would be the same. $300 or $900 is a bit far fetched...you could strap it to the top of your Honda and drive it to MN yourself. I have friends at work, as well as my parents who own sleep number beds, and customer service has never been anything but helpful.

RE: Oh please.

To return a sleep number bed purchased from QVC online (king size), cost $408.00. Florida to Rocky Mount, NC. Insurance was 29.00$, the rest was for ground UPS and tax. Outrageous. It cost 55$ for QVC to ship it to me, but not for the return!

Unfortunately, that's the "gotcha". That's the reason so many people don't return them.

Wow, sorry about that. People usually don't consider cost of return shipping when they make a purchase. They are very sure they will be happy.

Have you considered selling on ebay, and of course the buyer pays the shipping!

RE: Oh please

Hello:

Last week I bought a Sleep Number bed from QVC. We think we will be keeping it. After reading your posts stating the price of returning the bed, I called QVC. QVC representative, Doris, assured me there would be no cost for the return of the bed. All I needed to do was contact QVC and they would make the arrangements. Again, I think the bed is here to stay but I had to know what the cost of return was.

Sleep Number Beds are Bad

I used to work for the company in question here and I have a Sleep Number Bed. I started working for them in February of 2008 and purchased a Queen SN5000 Bed set. Within 6 months of getting the bed I have already had to replace the air chambers because the check valve on the air chambers went bad and caused the air chambers to deflate in the middle of the night. Select Comfort in my opinion makes a decent product but the company is run by idiots who don't know how to market their product. Also I would not recommend the store in the Topanga Plaza because the manager and the male sales pros there will not take no for an answer. If you do go there see the female sales pro.

Returned bed yesterday

We bought the 9000 model, the top of the line. Had problems from day 1. leak in air chamber. they sent new one. we had to install. tried different number settings and changing the foam pads around. every morning woke up with lower back hurting. some mornings ached all over. they sent additional foam pads to put under the air chambers. still did not help. they had extended our 30 day period to 90 and am I glad so I got rid of that thing. the quality is not there for the price. you could take quality air mattresses and foam from WM and make your own bed. the air pump was very noisy. the installer said that was the same pump used on all beds eventho the salesman said it was "whisper quiet". the foundation is heavy duty polyeythelyene. To anyone thinking of buying one of these beds...Think twice...They are not worth the money....Sheri

Sleep Number 5000

We bought a Sleep Number 5000 bed and have really done nothing but tried to find that "perfect" setting. We got it, but not the accessories right away. Customer service was pretty good, until...the trial period ended.
We had called 2 or 3 times for assistance and they were helpful, even gave us an extension on the trial period. They sent out a foam air chamber lift pad to lift my wife's chamber since she felt she was sinking too low, but the higher settings were too firm.
Since the trial period extension has run out, she is now having the same problems as before and my back has started to hurt more. Only missing the trial period by less than two weeks, the supervisor I talked to won't budge on a return and refund, even though we have done everything by the book.
The only option they can give me now is to send out another foam chamber lift. If that doesn't work, we are stuck with the bed.
For $2000, you can find a better bed at a better price, with less risk. Make sure you try it first in a store, we did and are still having issues.

Love my sleep number

We purchased a sleep number from QVC about 2 months ago. (after first trying it out in an actual store) I must say that me and my husband are truly ecstatic with it. My back pain has gone away; I dont wake up at all in the middle of the night; no tossing and turning; and it literally feels like I am sleeping on a cloud. We have had no problems with it. This bed is just like anything else you can purchase...some people have problems with it and some people dont. I reccomend the Sleep Number to everyone.

Oh, my aching back!

We just bought the Cadillac of sleep number beds and I've never been more miserable -- even sleeping on the piece of junk we had before we decided to upgrade and "be good to ourselves." I have new back pains in my upper back that I've never had before! I'm 35, physically fit and never have back pain, but I do now! I have to wait another week before my 30-day period is up and I'm anxious about all the horrible customer service stuff I'm hearing. From the test I took in the store, and after reading the Comfort Guide, I have really tried everything and wish I never would have bought this bed, all the fancy pillows and sheets and of course the non-returnable foundation. Gah!!
