Can We...

Is there a way to write a review on a general topic such as Disney World? I have looked and it appears that you have to write reviews on different rides, but not on the park itself. While I think it is valuable to have each individual ride evaluated, I don't think it serves the purpose that this site is intended. I don't believe consumers want to read about every single ride individually to decide what park they want to visit, but they want to read it as a whole to make that decision, as that would be substantially easier. Any help on that?

Also, being that I am quite new, I am trying to focus on one category and write as many reviews as I can muster in it, to hopefully make myself appealing eventually as a leader in the category, if I so choose to be that. My question is whether or not there is a limit to how many posts you can make in a single day or how many are frowned upon. I have quite a few reviews that I wrote a while back when I was pining to write a travel guide, however, I found it difficult to find a publisher, so I nixed the idea halfway through. While I still would have quite a bit of editing to do in order to the reviews more epinions style, the large majority of the work is done and is already on my computer, so would just be a matter of copy and paste and then update. What's the rule of thumb here?

RE: Can We...

Hmmm...
I'm surprised that there is no listing for general Walt Disney World reviews. I don't see why that is, but perhaps there is some reason behind it. You could always email one of the category leads and request they add a listing for just that.

As for posting reviews, there is no limit. However, posting lots of reviews in a short span of time has some real negatives to it, so it's best to space things out - especially when you're new. The reason you want to space things out is to get a good number of ratings, because with more ratings, the higher your review is placed, and therefore the more hits it gets and the more IS you get. Aiming to be within the top 3 reviews in a listing is a good goal (this isn't always possible, especially when you don't have a strong WoT)(an easy way to see where your review appears to the public is by replacing 'epinions' with 'pricetool' in the url). Also, to get some ratings & trusters, you should try to get your name out there, which happens by rating other reviews and leaving comments.

Depending on how many reviews you have sitting around, I'd say you should try to leave at least a day between, if not two. Whatever you do, try to remain consistent, as that way you'll get some steady followers and eventually getting 80+ ratings becomes simple. I also believe that pacing your reviews will help acquire a Top Reviewer hat (if you are aiming for that) rather than posting lumps of reviews sporadically - but I don't know for sure.

Keep in mind, this is just my take on it. Some people choose to just write reviews, others choose to just read & rate, and others choose to do both. I enjoy the latter. Do what you enjoy, and be consistent.

interesting...

I did a lot of reading before I even started writing reviews, so I feel that my first review is a lot better than many of the firsts that I have seen out there. With all of the advice on writing, the WOT, and all that jazz, I have come up with a formula that I hope will work, but who am I to come up with formulas. ;)

I figure for every review that I write, I should read and rate 200 reviews. As a percentage of those that return the favor, I would like to get a 10% return, so that would get me 10 read/rates for every 100, which I can live with. I then figured that no one will add me to their WOT until I have written a minimum of like 5-10 reviews. So I figure I will put out 10 reviews over a one week period of time and then slow it to 1 every like three days. This will give me plenty of time to read/rate in between. I'm a stay at home dad, so I have lots of time for that between naps.

I am halfway done with a review on Anchorage and another on Miami and it takes me about 2-3 hours to write each review, so there's no way I can crank them out like some people do, I only have enough time to write one every other day at best. I'm not sure how most people write reviews, but by the time I get through writing down the areas I want to talk about and figuring out what the names of the places are that I've been to and then researching it all and putting it together... time just blows by.

Welcome to the site!

Just my opinion of course. If your reviews are rated VH then go ahead and post 2 in a day. The reason I say that is this: I did read ahead and read that you spend, like I do, a considerable amount of time on travel reviews. As in any category I think it is better to write one VH review than 3 H reviews. Ok..more..as someone who is knew you want people to get to know you. If you post one and wait a couple of days while you are rating, others will read your review, hopefully like your writing and put you on their alert list. If you post 3 most are only going to read 1. Once you get established if you have that many sitting waiting for fame:) I wouldn't hesitate to post 2 a day but take a break so that you don't have 2 every single day only so you will get hits and get people to read the review you have put so much time into. Hope this helps!! jo

Biscuitfarmer - I'm with you and I've been her almost 5 years. I have no idea how people crank out travel reviews because I do just what you do - research. I have my notes but I want to make sure I have names spelled correctly, etc. I see travel reviews really as guides and have used them as such. When we went to Hawaii, I printed out many travel reviews that helped us during our trip. I hope to be able to do that. It is also fun to relive the experience. Now hotels don't take as long. You can pretty much "borrow" someone's stye- feel free to borrow mine:) style that is not review - just kidding..again hope this helps. jo

RE: Can We...

Hmmm... I don't know how I missed that listing. I can find it with no problem now, but I spent a good 10 minutes searching google and epinions and didn't come up with anything the other day - and it's not like I'm new to the whole searching thing.

hmmm

Okay, that's frustrating, because I can find it now too... I think someone snuck it in there with a lot of reviews suddenly, just to mess with my head.

As for the postings, I have decided on a method. I have decided to get to about 15 reviews, which is where I am at now. I will then just post one a day, but in different topic areas, so that there's plenty of room for a variety of readers to get to know my style. The reason for the first 15 quickly is because this will give me a base for people to look at my reviews and decide whether or not they should add me to their WOT. I know I wouldn't add anyone with less than 10 reviews, because you don't know what they are really capable until they really get going. I have about 30 reviews right now that are just drafts on epinions that are actually completely done, and I'm just going to release them on days when I am too busy to actually research and write anything. They will also pop out when I need a new book review, but don't feel like writing one, because I just spent hours on a travel review, things like that.

We'll see if this concept will work for me, but so far I haven't heard of any single tried and true method that works.

One thing I do know, with the hundreds of ratings I have been leaving and nearly the same amount of comments, I have been meeting quite a few people, which has made the site a lot more enjoyable.

I could not find it via the search engine - the search engine brought me though to the pages you saw with all the rides listed. I just scrolled through a few pages and WDW was listed separately. It is frustrating - they know the search engine is BAAAAD. If you don't have the right spacing or an ' or whatever it won't find it. Alls well that ends well! jo
