To SAP or not to SAP?

I just returned from a week-long vacation and spent the majority of the trip in a particular hotel in Minnesota. I knew almost immediately I needed to review this hotel, but here's the thing....

It was recently a new acquisition to the family of La Quinta Inns & Suites (within the last few months). Prior to the owner and name change, it was a Clarion. It is listed in the epinions database under Clarion and the address used at that time. Many changes have been made to the hotel, including the address....they use the road running in the perpendicular direction as the main address now.

So, do I write my review under the listing as it stands and point out that it no longer goes under that name or address (and all the other differences in amenities and such) or do I go ahead with my original plan which was to SAP?

RE: To SAP or not to SAP?

Sorry, I guess I should have posted this under "Writing Reviews" rather than here in the general area.

Feel free to move me.

RE: To SAP or not to SAP?

I'd probably do a SAP.

I agree with Mark - submit an SAP. Although I occasional see reviews posted under an old listing (For example, ''This Ritz Carlton was once a Motel 6 at the same address'') it's better to get the fresh listing into the database. -Dave

From a Motel 6 to the Ritz? Now there's a change.

Thank you both for the advice. I am going to go ahead with the SAP. I want to go about this the right way, and was hoping the consensus was the same as my initial thought to make the request.

Now to polish up my notes and write the review...

I know I'm late. But I agree with SAPing it b/c it technically IS a new place. If it had been the same name and was just refurbished, you shouldn't sap it... but with new owners, a new name, and a new overall hotel - I take that as a new place. Looking forward to reading your review :-D

Thank you, it's my first one, and I'm a bit nervous about it. I was jotting down notes the whole time I was there hoping not to forget any points I thought were important.

Been there... done that :) I take only a few vacations, but when I do I bring a notebook and every night write as many notes as I can about the restaurants I ate at or attractions I visited. I really don't know how these regular travellers remember every detail of every place they've been b/c I have a horrible memory!

RE: To SAP or not to SAP?

Sorry I'm late to this discussion, but I agree 100% with what has already been said here.

If the name of a hotel has changed, then please send through a SAP to either Di or I.

In any case, we check through the database before we add anything, so if we don't feel we should add a SAP, we will drop you a note and a link to the topic...

Thanks for raising; it's a very good point.

Chris

RE: To SAP or not to SAP?

Another late contribution.

I agree with the SAP but would also go one step further. In addition to the newly added hotel I would enter an Express Review under the old Clarion stating it is no longer.

I would also add a link from the Express review to your newly entered full review of the renovated hotel.

I believe that would be most helpful to our readers.

RE: To SAP or not to SAP?

That's an excellent idea! I have never before written an express review, so I wouldn't even have thought of that.

Thank you, Phil!

Late input

Personally, I would have posted it on the page Epinions itself generated. I notice they do update their own generated pages eventually and SAP pages tend to lose their links to the Epi search engine. That's what happened to the pages I posted reviews on for the Ayres Inn and Travelodge London Covent Garden. I also suspect the income share on the pages they produce themselves is also a little better.

You can also fill out and submit the feedback form at http://www.epinions.com/feedback/?show=bugs_forms. I mentioned the name of the Bull & Finch Pub changed to Cheers—Beacon Hill and it was acted on more quickly than I expected.

RE: SAP?

I submitted a travel SAP about a month ago and have not gotten a response. Should I re-submit? Thanks, Dave

I would definitely resubmit. Both leads pride themselves (as they should) on the (usually) quick turnaround on the SAPs they get.

RE: SAP?

Hi Dave

Must confess I have slipped just a little on my e-mails of late, so although I think I've caught them all, please drop me a note if you sent it to me!

Yes, if Di and I ever take more than a week or so then please chase us up - we honestly won't be offended :o)

RE: SAP?

Thanks Chris. I can't post anything with the ''New and Improved'' content editor. If it is fixed or replaced in the near future I will re-submit. In the meantime I can't post any reviews. -Dave
