The CPSC has issued a recall on some wooden Thomas and Friends trains and accessories made in China. Most of the pieces have red paint.

RE: Thomas & Friends Recall

Has anyone sent in the paperwork on this, or called to find out what the replacements will be?

Mary

Thomas Recall

I pulled four of the recalled toys from my two year old. I called my pediatrician and had him tested. He has lead poisoning from the trains. Get your kids tested for lead.

RE: Thomas & Friends Recall

I just got an e-mail reply from them stating that they had received my returned items and that they are "working diligently to replace your product in a timely manner", along with a reference number I can use if I need to contact them.

Clearly they are concerned about their public image and our trust in their products, as the rest of the e-mail goes into detail on their research into the problem and how they're going to ensure it doesn't happen again.

unacceptable

This Thomas recall has me infuriated. US manufacturers spent years getting the lead out and now everything is made in China where there is no standard- they dont care about our kids and this the HIT company doesnt either. They have had quite the gold mine with this Thomas stuff and I think they should be held more accountable. I'm sure it doesnt cost them 10 or 20 dollars to make one of these engines. Lead poisoning is not a joke- it causes irreversible brain damage. I cannot believe this is not a bigger story in the news.

We got "Butch" today

An update:

Today in the mail we received a padded envelope containing "Butch the Tow Truck" and a letter from RC2 stating that they were working diligently and will ship the new replacements as soon as they can. They asked me to please accept the new train car as a token of their appreciation for my patience and loyalty... The letter also says that the check to reimburse me for shipping my recalled items will arrive in a separate mailing.

My little guy was thrilled to receive Butch, of course.

William was so excited to receive his Choo Choo's in the mail yesterday. Anyone else get their trains too?

RE: We got

Ours haven't come yet! I like that they did the online tracking thing though so I can see they will be coming very soon.

Our "extra" engine arrived several weeks ago and it was the "hard at work percy". like we need another percy... but the kids seem happy about it.

Recall of five Thomas & Friends™
Wooden Railway toys.
September 26, 2007 -- RC2 Corporation announced today that it is voluntarily recalling five toys from the Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway product line due to levels of lead in surface paint that may exceed U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission requirements. In total this recall affects up to 200,000 units in the United States and an additional 69,000 units distributed outside the U.S. Since the June recall announcement, more than 1,500 individual Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway toy styles were retested to ensure their safety. This precautionary testing led to five additional discoveries that prompted this voluntary recall. There have been no reports of illness or injury related to any of the recalled toys. The recalled toys were all manufactured before April 30, 2007.

RE: More Thomas Trains are recalled now!

Oh geeze! Thanks for the post MT. Maybe I should slyly grab these and send them back. Mr. Wills has all but the black cargo car, and I'll never hear the end of it, if he KNOWS they are replacing them.

Rolling eyes and sighing...

Mary

RE: Thomas & Friends Recall

I dunno, I thought maybe it was because of the specific pieces we sent in - the firehouse and firetrucks, etc.

RE: Thomas & Friends Recall

I was kidding of course, but as you say the fire station is a big one, and probably a longer wait. How did the big guy handle the wait? William asked me about his choo's choo's every week (even though he barely plays with them any more :( ).

RE: Thomas & Friends Recall

He told me weekly how "such and such" train RAN AWAY and was rather distressed by it. Surprisingly he's still really into Thomas even though most kids his age have moved out of them but he is definitely immature in a lot of ways due to everything else the kid has going on :)
