Halloween Costumes?
What costumes are your kids wearing this year? Where did you get them from?
How far in advance do you plan your kids costume?

RE: Halloween Costumes?
I am getting away cheap this year. My almost 11 year old daughter and my 12 year old son have decided to dress as each other :) My daughter is very into Twilight and pretty much wears a Twilight themed shirt every day if I let her, and my son is a huge Houston Astros fan and wears those shirts all the time (we live in NYC, so it sort of stands out!). They are close enough in height and weight that they could each find something in the others closet that fits comfortably. My daughter is putting her hair up under an Astros cap and I only had to buy a wig for my son so he's got longer hair. They really look alot like each other so its a cute idea :)

I'm getting away pretty cheap this year, too, though not so humorously. :)
My kids are going as pirates. Since my daughter had a pirate-themed birthday party last year, we have the costumes and accessories. I almost had to hunt down a Jessie costume from Toy Story for her but that got nixed. Phew!

RE: Halloween Costumes?
I love Pirate costumes! My husband had made for my son when he was about 7 years old, a pirate vest. It was this old red velvet from vest that was his grandfathers, that he took fabric paint & created this awesome skull on the backside - and then we sewed on patches througout the rest.
It really was very cool! My daughter even wore it several times for Halloween years later.
This year, my 14 year old has come up with her "own idea". She is going to pretend that she is the stunt double for the Wicked Witch of the East (Wizard of Oz). We bought her the red ruby slippers & black/white stockings. Then my husband went online & created a t-shirt for her saying that she is the "stunt double" for Wicked Witch of the East. It has a film reel on it, the house with the tornado, ...
I know I'm probably not doing it justice, but it is a very clever idea.

RE: Halloween Costumes?
My older boys are both going as ninja lords this year. Its actually the third year my oldest has been a Ninja of some sort. The second year for my middle son. Lol, I guess some themes just stick. Each year we buy different Ninja Costumes, but this years costumes are the best by far.
My youngest son who will be two in December is going as a Monkey. Believe me its fitting! I got his costume at Old Navy and he looks absolutely adorable! I love it because its so warm that he won't have to wear much underneath and its hooded so his head will stay warm too. Much better than a hat that he would take off two minutes after I got it on him.
What night is your community having their trick or treat?
My town is actually having ours on Saturday! |

RE: Halloween Costumes?
My 4th grade son has decided he's finally "too old" for Halloween *sigh*
My 4 year old and 2 year old want to wear their Disney Princess dress up clothes, so that will be an easy year for me :)

Hey Kimm,
I'm willing to bet that your son will one day change his mind about being "too old" to go trick or treating!!! Especially when all his friends are going! :)

RE: Halloween Costumes?
I love the stunt double idea, and the sibling switcheroo. My son is going to be a bumblebee, because it is the last costume from the girls we will be able to recycle on him (although he will be sporting black sweat pants instead of white tights underneath).
I lucked out with my oldest, who wanted to be a witch. My three year old wanted to be Brittany, the Chipette from Alvin and the Chipmunks. Luckily, she liked her sister's witch hat, and we were able to convince her that the pink Barbie sorceress costume was just like what Brittany would like like as a witch, so she went with it.
ALL of our community stuff is on Saturday, but some things are staggered throughout the day, so we might try to hit up a couple things. We are so excited that this is "fall back" weekend, so we'll get to sleep an extra hour on Saturday night!

RE: Halloween Costumes?
How was your trick or treating experience? Was the weather nice?
Also wondering if your childrens schools celebrated Halloween with a party or something similar?
My childrens school doesn't do anything for Halloween. I know that some schools have what they call a "fall festival" or something like that, but they don't recognize any of it here. I'm curious about other schools across the US.
It makes me sad, the parties are the things that made school so much fun and I feel like my kids are missing out. I remember my mom coming in with many other parents and making our holiday celebrations so special.... |

It rained :( I think that's the first year ever I can remember.
Our schools are not allowed to dress up OR have celebrations here -- but local churches and the mall all do events that night.
