Below is my situation:

My company has recently decided to support a venture into the field of Music Technology
and have employed me on the basis of developing this area. The employer has funded the sum
of US $10,000. This money has been allocated for me to purchase new Music Technology
equipment/software.
In addition to the US $10,000 my employer has supplied me with one new computer
(Macintosh Power Mac) installed with the latest operating system available. It is a standard
issue computer with 8GB RAM, DVD writer, 1TB HDD, 24” LCD monitor.
My task is to produce report recommending equipment (software and hardware) that best fits
the needs of my employment situation. I will need to take into consideration the
requirements of the users, the quality of the equipment and the quantity of equipment I
require.

1. Choose of Software and Hardware
Establish and document what software package best fulfil my requirements. Consider the
options of different levels of software (eg. entry level or full version), multi-component
software packages (e.g. notation + sequencing). Consider what additional hardware (eg.
mixers, computers, keyboards, etc.) I require. Consider the quality of the equipment
required (eg. $400 or $4000 microphones) and the quantity desired.

2. Show the connections
Summarise the requirements in a table detailing the exact names and models of the equipment
(including all software and hardware), the approximate costs involved, and a sentence
explaining why you chose each component. Include a detailed block diagram showing
how I will be connecting the equipment. Label all Devices.

I suggest that you hit the books and also visit some local music stores for their opinions/advice. Show your requirements to an intelligent clerk at one of the stores and listen to his/her advice. If a company wants your business, it may be willing to do most of this work for you.
