Chase Credit Card Suck

Anyone have any advice for me how I solve this problem would be greatly appreciate. I have Chase Credit card for the past 5 years now. I even have a car loan with them and pay the car loan off already. I have an outstanding balance of 8,000 on my credit car and my interest rate is a 2.99 fix. For some reason I though I make the payment but I guess the internet mess up and it did not when thru. So I receive a phone call from Chase ten days later from my due date said I have a late payment so I pay them over the phone right away. But when I go to my account I see they raise my rate up from 2.99 to 29.99 percents. What going on here? I never miss a payment this is my first one and they do that. Can anyone help me out please because 30% of 8000 is a lot of money every month. I will never used chase again it suck.

RE: Chase Credit Card Suck

Apparently Chase sems to do the bait and rate bump a bit. They seem to look for a reason to bump up your interest rate to 29.99% and then turn around and say that either "you are now a credit risk" or we saw something in your credit report that says that you have too much credit. What is interesting is that I was only using half of my credit available when that occured yet to them I was a credit risk. What it even more disturbing is that a month later somebody called me from chase to inquire as to why I have a high balance with them (My limit is 21,000 and I had a balance of 11,000). Not to mention that they called me at work to discuss something personal.

What is interesting is that they pulled the same trick on a business account which is under a corporate name and nothing to do with my name. It was on a Bank One account which they bought over and started the 29.99% rate tricks. These guys are very shady and I really do not know what separates Chase from a loan shark. How could this be legal (apparently the fine print on the amendments you receive in the mail allow them to change rules as they go). What is surprising is that a class action lawsuit is yet to be appear in the horizon. As the economy is slow and people may be late occassionally or use more credit than usual, these guys wull have a field day!

BTW, their customer service is for the birds...Basically they are live answering systems that read the appropriate script and then tell you that there is nothing for them to do.

I have made it one of my missions to take away at least a customer a week from them by either discouraging them to use Chase or recommend them a better place to get a card. These guys are bad news... STAY AWAY

RE: Chase Credit Card Suck

I agree with what everyone has said. I also have some accounts that Chase bought over from another bank. This past winter I noticed they raised the APR an account to 29.95 % saying I had too much credit out and they were unsure I'd be able to pay my bills. Eventhough I paid on time, never over the credit limit, and paid more than the minimum. One of their supervisors actually laughed at me because I was only paying $50 over the minimum ! I paid off the card and now 6 months later I have received a notice that they are raising to 32 % an another I have with them. i was waiting for them to pull this. Again since they said how they weren't sure I could pay my bills, I have never been late on anything with any creditor...and matter off fact other creditors have increased my credit line without me asking.
My advice to everybody is stay away from Chase.

CHASE CREDIT CARDS

My wife had a card with Bank One for many years, but Bamlk One was swallowed up by Chase. Prior to the Chase merger we received our statement on line, however, after the merger we didn't even receive paper statements. To make a long story short, not having received any statements, we continued to pay our other bills as usual, but the Chase bill went by the wayside for a couple of months. Then the calls started, stating we missed a payment, so we immediately authorized a payment via the phone.

This "game" with Chase continued even though on every occasion we kept telling them we weren't getting any statements! The "Rhode Scholars" manning the phones said they would note it and ensure we'd get statements, but this never happened.

Because of this, our interest rate went up to 30%, which more than doubled our minimum payment! Despite multiple calls nothing happened. Chase then began calling stating we needed to make minimum payments of over $900/month! Who's got that kind of money? In the mean time we've continued paying as much as we could, yet Chase continued calling up to 7-8 times per day!

Here it is 2 days before Xmas and my wife was just served with papers indicating Chase is suing us! All I can say is they are the biggest bunch of inhuman, bottom feeders I have ever encountered! As I mentioned, we've made multiple calls to them to get the statement issue resolved and to work out a reasonable payment option, but being the bullies they are, they couldn't be bothered!

Not only will we NEVER use a Chase credit card again, but we will also avoid Chase ATM's! They bend over backwards to get your business, but God forbid they be in error for anything or you accidently miss a payment! To them it's business as usual and screw the little guy!

Chase Credit Card Are Bullies!

Unfortunately, I have some accounts with Chase as well and have always paid on time. Due to unforeseen of events, I got laid-off and could not make the minimum payment due.I still made the attempt to pay whatever I could afford. Naturally, the calls began and would never leave a message and started receiving correspondence through the mail. It has gotten to the point that if I don't pay the outstanding balance of $34,000 Chase would start legal proceedings.

I can't believe this company operates worse than a loan shark with their 29% APR which is outrageous. Can they really get away with this? Is that even legal? Their customer service are not professional at all and doesn't care what your financial situation is. If anyone can give me any advice or guidance to this situation, I would be very grateful.

RE: CHASE CREDIT CARDS

I read your story and I can't believe Chase treated your wife that way. So, what was the outcome after being sued?

RE: Chase Credit Card Suck

It's rampant. The horrible thing is that it is also SNEAKY. It doesn't come like a gentleman in your bill...it comes in something that looks like a throwaway. This way, you have no time to call a portfolio advisor and see how you can shift things around.
An out an out boycott would be great. These automatic debits from the gym, the ISP, the "6 payments of..." should be taken off and we should go back to writing checks. I'm not a mathematician but I know that if every person took even $200 a month off and went back to writing checks it would hurt them. We use them as a convenience and not a necessity in many cases. Obviously, your car payment is done through Chase so it will be on time. I never had a problem with a US stamp, an evelope and a call to make sure they received my money. Well worth even 50 cents for proof of mailing if you want to take it that far.
Their higher ups take $20 million xmas gifts while you get your rate raised as a plan to totally bury you. This is meant to hurt and enslave. It is not just business.
Maybe if all of us did whatever possible to cut them off.
It's not really feasible to stop using cards completely. I wish there was some good zillionairre that would step up to the plate and create a working man's card that had some decency. And they want us to worship the people who are letting these vampires exist. The bankruptcy bill that passed last year was written by Chase. Nice work if you can get it. Until we take a stand...it will go up to 50%. If you pay your electric bill late they can raise your rate citing you as a risk. There's no way out. This is proof positive that there is no hell. Chase wouldn't be taking these chances if there were. Call your car company and tell them you would like to start sending in a check. Take a day a month and make it a day of vindication. Or, ask your bank if they can handle your payment. Just leave Chase behind. Say no to legal loansharking.

Chase Credit Card Suck

Same here! I got the notice in May 2006 that Chase was going to increase my interest to 29.99% unless I opt-out and close the account. I called and spoke to a rep and they said that if I closed my account the interest rate would stay the same and not increase. BUT here it is January 2007 and they increase the interest to 29.99% anyway! I called, even though the account is closed, they can still raise the interest! The supervisor I spoke to actually told me to open another Chase account with a 12 month no interest introductory rate, get a cash advance then pay off the high interest card! This company is unbelievable!

I will NEVER have anything to do with Chase or JP Morgan again! None of my other credit cards have done this! They actually lowered my rate.

Chase Fraud

I have had a Chase account for 6 years. When our account got up to $15,481.00 with an interest of 27% I decided it was time to get rid of it. I paid it off in January, I paid the full balance and it was paid on time. Yesterday I received another statement from them saying that I owed them another $188 dollars in interest. I do not get this. I called them and they said they can't take this off. I talked to 2 different people and they said they couldn't take off this interest. I do not understand, I paid the entire balance, how could I owe them more? I told them they are crooks! If I don't pay this, it will go against my good credit. If I do pay it then I am letting them get away with fraud!!! I too was never late with a payment and my interest managed to sneak up to 27% I told them where what they could do with their credit card.

chase credit card

We had our credit card with Bank One then CHASE took over. We have had the account since 2003 and always paid in full each month, never late. We used this with our business and had automatic bills being charged to this account, so we paid them when we received a bill. We had been saving points for 3 years and had a total of 179,000 points saved up for a family trip. We did not receive a bill for 3 months, no phone calls, nothing. One of our vendors informed us that a charge had been rejected. I checked on the card and found we were delinquent. I paid the total due immediately with all late fees and interest. They closed my account and took back ALL 179,000 miles!! I have called "customer service" and been told there is nothing they will do for us. I could even understand if they didn't credit us for the amount that was delinquent that period of time which was 3,000, but don't know how they justify taking points I earned for the previous years. Does anyone know of any way to get them reinstated? Has anyone else had this problem?

RE: chase credit card

I turned Chase into The Oregon Department of Justice Financial Fraud/Consumer Protection Section. The Oregon Department of Justice responded to me within 3 days and sent a letter to Chase to take care of the problem.

RE: Chase Fraud

I just closed paid a $11,000 balance in full because of the high interest rate and had the same thing happen to me. The next day there was a finance charge of $225. You pay interest in arrears so if you go back and look at previous statements you can see when they charge you fees. As bad as it hurts, you may owe it so double check before deciding not to pay and it hits your credit...they report monthly. If you don't, dispute it with the bureaus w/ back-up and report them.

RE: late statement

Chase did the same to me! I have had the account for years, and I never pay late. I did not receive a statement for my Visa account since December, and since it was over the holidays, I didn't notice. When I got a statement in February with finance charges and late fees, I was mad. I immediately called and requested the fees be removed. I was told to pay the balance and then call back. I did this, and was told they could only remove one of the fees I had incurred. They also told me that, between the time I called and the time they processed my payment, I had incurred more late fees! They told me that I should have realized the statement had not arrived, and that they were not responsible for problems with the US mail service. Needless to say, I closed my account. They can't waive a fee to keep a customer? Isn't that poor business practice? And since I'm not the only one not to receive a statement from this time period, maybe it was never sent. Maybe Chase is at fault in the first place, not the US mail service!

Chase is Crooked

I have been with BankOne/ Chase for almost 8 years now. I too have NEVER missed/ been late for a payment. I received a notice in the mail that my interest is being increased to 32.24%. I called to inquire why, and was told that they pulled my credit report and said i'm using too much of my credit. So, I checked my credit report with Experian, and found that my credit score is a 701. I thought that a score in the 700's is good?? So either I close my account of 8 years and hurt my credit score, or try my hardest to pay it off ASAP and never use the card again. My advise: STAY AWAY FROM CHASE!!!! THEY ARE DISHONEST CROOKS!

Chase Credit Cards Horrible!

Chase continues to be the most disgusting company I've ever dealt with. I have also had a Chase Credit Card with no late payments for over seven years. Over a year ago, they sent a letter stating they were raising the interest rate from 18% to 25%. When I called to ask why, they said that I had too much debt. My only option to avoid paying another $100/month in interest was to close the account, which I did. I also opted out of the new government mandated (I was told) higher minimum payment. I just received a letter dated 2/21/07 stating that they were raising the minimum payment. When I called to tell them they can't do that on a closed account, the "advisor" read the one-year old letter in the file and tried to tell me that they were again raising the apr to 25%. After arguing with him for a few minutes, he realized he was reading the wrong letter. He still insisted they could raise the APR at any time for any reason, and that they can and were raising the minimum payment--but I had the option of talking with their credit department if that was a burden on me. Sears Card Services is just as bad. I've never missed a payment and my rate is up around 25%.

Chase & Circuit City

I too, have had a bad experience with Chase. I purchased a laptop from Circuit City in May 2006 with a promo of 6 months same as cash. This of course opened an account with Chase (which I was not aware of prior to my purchase). My philosophy when I take on a financial responsibility is to pay off the amount in increments before any finance charges are assessed. So imagine my surprise when I started receiving bills with finance charges in July. When I called customer service, I was told that the promotion was not recorded and they could not adjust my account. When I asked if I could speak to a manager and if they really wanted to inconvenience me by forcing me to go back to the store to get my adjustment, I was put on hold for ½ hour and then hung up on. Circuit City representatives were very pleasant and even they were puzzled why Chase could not make the adjustment. I personally think such representation indicates poor management and doesn’t deserve my business. I transferred the balance to another card and now am having trouble finding how to close the account.

Further, I think the only way Chase will get the message is if large companies like Circuit City refuse to do business with them...

They got me too...

After about 4 years of maintaining perfect payment record, wham! went over my limit (for about 10 seconds) and I've been reeling from it ever since.

Chase has misrepresented how I could remedy the situation in every conversation I've had with them, and sent me the junk-mail-looking 'opt-out' only after a second hike in my interest rate... of course they don't offer it on the initial hike (for going over the limit) because then I would be able to close the account and lock in on the low interest rate I had when I opened the account.

So I'm doing the best I can to fight back--
