Waggintrain Chicken Jerky
We've been feeding these treats to our 2 large dogs for about 2 years now, and feeling less than comfortable doing so... In the beginning, we fed them 5-7 treats/per dog/per day. Needless to say, we ended up at the vets office, who suggested we stick to one treat a day if need be, or better yet - NONE. What we've noticed is that our dogs are "addicted" to these things - to the point of sitting in front of the closet and barking... I should add that my guys are extremely well trained, in fact, while in training sessions, the dog trainers could absolutely not motivate them with food of any kind (hot dogs, rotisserie chicken, steaks - really!!). What made me google this 'treat' was primarily to find out if others are experiencing behavioral issues with their dogs. From what it seems the answer is YES, which brings me to my suspicion, that among other mentioned toxins this treat may contain trace levels of a cheap drug...Farfetched as this may seem, with all that has been going on with safety issues relating to human and pet foods, there is certainly a possibility.....Obviously, the remaining jerky treats will be returned to Costoc, but the FDA should certainly be held responsible for conducting some SERIOUS testing as soon possible... |

RE: Waggintrain Chicken Jerky
it is funny that you mention that your dogs are "addicted" to this treat...I too have been feeding my three dogs this treat for about three years and they will not TOUCH their dinner unless they eat a couple of these treats FIRST. Everyone in my family laughs about how spoiled they are. I have tried making homemade "dried" chicken breasts treats with the machine that my hubby makes his beef jerky in and they do not like it. Mine have shown NO signs of illness. I make sure that I smell all their food before I feed it to them. I also cook them boiled chicken breasts and rice and scrambled eggs with cheese. The dog food scare is horrible and my pets are like my children...so I do not know what to do about the Waggintrain chicken jerky. It has also gone sky high in price...I was paying 12.00 for the lg bag and it has gone up to 16.00 plus....does this mean that they changed something?? My dogs eat a bag of this stuff week. I know that I should stop giving it to them...but they love it SO much! What would you guys do? Two of my dogs are small shih tzus and my other is a cockapoo...i would think they would have shown some signs by now if the treats were contaminated...

RE: waggintrain chicken jerkky
I just went online to order and discovered there is a problem which scares me. How can we find out. But I will say that my dalmation/lab mix has also become almost addicted to them and also stands at the cabinet telling me he wants them as one woman said her dog did. I wonder if there is something in them that is habitforming. Too bad, he really enjoyed those and does not like the other brands much at all. |

RE: Waggintrain Chicken Jerky
Again, I don't know what to do either. My one dog is almost addicted too and this week has had a terrible case of the runs, but never before and this bag had been bought awhile ago at Costco. Other than this week, he has never shown any signs of health problems due to them. Why have they been pulled; can we find out? |

I found this letter on their website so I thought everyone would like to see this. Hope it helps.
Latest Press Release: Sept 14th, 2007
Waggin’ Train Brand Chicken Jerky Tenders
Proven SAFE over and over again.
Reno, NV – Waggin’ Train Brand Chicken Jerky Tenders is the largest selling chicken jerky brand and has an unblemished safety record and has NOT been recalled now or ever in the company's history .
ADI Pet, Inc., the makers of Waggin’ Train Chicken Jerky Tenders, wants to clarify news/ media reports that “chicken jerky” has been pulled from stores shelves without mention of the affected brand name (Bestro), thus confusing and alarming Waggin’ Train consumers unnecessarily .
Waggin’ Train Brand is completely safe and has never had a single positive laboratory test nor incident of bacterial contamination. This is a record to be proud of considering the fact that we make over 20 million pounds of Waggin Train Chicken Jerky Tenders annually with approximately 80 million pounds of fresh chicken tenderloins . “We take product safety very seriously and implement the appropriate steps to insure a continuation of this exemplary safety record” states Jerry Peters , President , ADI Pet Inc.
The brand pulled , Bestro and the manufacturers Shanghai Bestro Trading or Pingyang Pet Products which have been named in news articles surrounding “chicken jerky” pulled from store shelves are in no way associated with nor supply product for the Waggin’ Train Brand.
Peters further stated “We start production by selecting premium chicken tenderloins and then produce and package Waggin’ Train Chicken Jerky Tenders in a sanitary facility to human grade standards.
Our facilities are managed utilizing stringent safety and quality guidelines and are regularly inspected by our retailers and SGS, one of the world’s largest and most respected inspection companies.”
In addition to our strict handling we further sterilize every package of Waggin’ Train Brand Chicken Jerky , after it has been packaged and sealed, using Irradiation methods that meet USDA standards and follow the World Health Organization recommendation for sterilization of food for human consumption. While not required by law we feel this extra measure of safety, in addition to our human grade handling and processing, is essential in assuring safety for all of our beloved Pets.
