sway bar / stabilizer bar

Are the sway bar and the stabalizer bar the same thing? The dealer told me my sway bar links and bushings need to be replaced.I looked in my Hanes/Chilton manual and there was nothing for sway bar links, but there was for the stabalizer bar and links.
Thanks

RE: sway bar / stabilizer bar

Yes, the sway bar (actually, better called the antisway bar) is the same thing as the stabilizer bar. Stabilizer bars can be installed at the front and rear of the car, sometimes in one place and often in both. They work to reduce lean in a car during turns.

So the answer to your question is "yes" -- the sway bar and the stabilizer bar are the same thing.

sway bar...?

This should be my first post! Please give me a warm welcome mates.. LOL.. okay, here's the issue, there is this clunking and rattle vibration at the front end of the my vehicle.. I believe it has something to do with the sway bar kit.. what should I do? Im considering a rebuild or a sway bar kit replacement

If it was me, I'd drive the car up onto ramps (which can be bought for $25 or so at Walmart, etc.) and slide under the front end of the car. Once underneath, I'd shake and rattle the suspension components, try to wobble the tires and generally give everything a close examination. The suspension components that should be looked at carefully include sway bars, control arms, McPherson struts and shock absorbers. Many of these components have rubber bushings where they attach to the other components -- for example, sway bars have rubber bushings where they attach to the vehicle's body and to the control arms. If these bushings fail, there will be lots of clunking.

Look very carefully at any suspension component that seems to be greasy or covered in leaking oil. If oil gets on rubber bushings, it will cause them to fail prematurely. (Been there, done that.) Ball joints (which you read about in another post) are another spot where they can loosen and cause clunking. Still another are the tie rods that connect the steering mechanism to the wheels.

But the first step in identifying any of this is to put the car up on ramps and start looking and shaking things. If you can get something to move/clunk by hand, it's dead certain that it will move/clunk as you drive.

Good luck!
