My 8 year old son who is on the autism spectrum but high functioning has taken in an amazing way to the captain Underpants books. He read seven of the books in ten days which I find to be amazing. HE took in what he read because I would hear him laughing and giggling while he was reading.

I am looking for recommendations that are along the same line of reading that will engage him and keep him wanting to read. He is obviously reading fine on an 8 to 10 year old level.

The funny thing was when I picked up the book in the store, he balked at first and had to be coaxed into reading the first one!

Patti,

It depends on how irreverent you're willing to deal with. My son enjoyed the "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" series, and read them several times. I read the first one, however, and thought some of the dialogue and pranks were terrible! I wonder if that's what makes these books so funny... they feature kids doing totally gross stuff and saying irreverent things.

But, that's the series that came to mind. You might want to skim it first to see if you're OK with the content.

Recommendations, please

"Time Travelers Trio" series.

A bit more serious and yet lots of fun much along the lines of the The Magic Tree House series.
