Auto-reviewing
Some sites allow authors to review their own books, either listed as any other review, or given a special section. Other sites prohibit or discourage this.
What think you? |

RE: Auto-reviewing
I rate as Off-Topic any "review" an author writes themselves.
By definition you cannot review your own work. Such a "review" would not be a review at all, and so should not be posted in the reviews section of the site. It should instead be posted in the writer's corner.

RE: Auto-reviewing
I give it a not helpful as the point of a review is unbiased commentary and recommendation and the author of a book always has a vested interest in encouraging people to buy it. |

RE: Auto-reviewing
Not helpful, in my opinion. It's just an ad rather than a review.

Re: Auto Reviewing
is writing a press release or an ad. If you wrote the book, you certainly can't review it. Nor, as in my case, the published book contains one story of yours and half a dozen from other folks.
Reviewing your own book simply isn't done here or in the real world beyond Epinions. I always rate those that try as NH and encourage others to do so. It also pretty much kills any credibility you did have review wise before you reviewed your own book.

This is a wonderful opinion. The things mentioned are unanimous and needs to be appreciated by everyone.

It's more a summary although that can depend on how it's written. Some sites allow a publisher's note to be included with the description, some allow an interview of the author (which I actually enjoy), but Epinions doesn't really offer either format. Honestly, I don't know a single author who's going to say anything negative about their book -- even if they are their own harshest critic.

RE: Auto-reviewing
I might let it slide if it were an Express Review, but otherwise a full 'review' would really just be spam. |
