The aspiring author as critic

Many of us here on epinions also aspire to write something other than reviews on a professional level. Some of us already do.

In any case, here's an interesting podcast from SF author Paul Levinson about the complications that can arise from being both an author and a critic, and whether it's advisable for would-be authors to write reviews.

His bottom line is do it, do it honest, and do it well--good writing conquers all.

Interesting...wouldn't it suck to get on some publisher's poo-list because you slammed one of their authors in a review. I'm sure it has happened before.
