Question on bold/italics in Book Reviews
Okay, so I've worked out my own system, but I was wondering what others do perk-wise in the following situations:
1. The book title?
(I always italicize)
2. The author's name?
(I leave it normal)
3. Title of a series?
(I usually bold it, for no good reason)
So, what do you do? |

RE: Question on bold/italics in Book Reviews
I italicize book titles and do nothing for authors. Book series can be tricky.
I usually italicize if it's an official title for the series, one that you would see on the cover, like Series Title: Book Title. But if the series title is less formally employed, like Hardy Boys or something, then I'll just capitalize and nothing else.
But I can't promise I've been consistent in that over the years.

'perk-wise'..??
Book (or movie) I bold and italicize the first usage and the last usage of the title only.
I italicize-only each subsequent use of the title (or shortened title). (And any other films/books titles referenced...)
Nothing else bolded or italicized (unless emphasis is warranted). No author names bolded, no character names bolded, no random words bolded.
AND NO ALL CAPS . . .EVER.
Interesting TOPIC.

RE: Question on bold/italics in Book Reviews
We're all so inconsistent. I tend to
~ bold book titles but that's only to make it stand out since it's infrequently in the first paragraph
~ italics chapter titles, quotes/direct copy from book, very personal and slightly OT inclusions
~ never caps unless it's in the quote or title
~ no special treatment for author name
~ italics for scientific/Latin names

Pffftttttt.
We (all of us) are not all _that_ inconsistent...
I guess I do italicize things like Introduction, Index, etc..
I also "quote mark" all quotations and italicize them. And italics that would be used elsewhere, like your scientific names example. And I never have "very personal and slightly OT inclusions". I am too shy to share those . . .. ...:minism:...
I do wish Eps had a way to 'paragraph indent' (or whatever it is called) longer quotations . . .not that I am in favor of overdoing the long quotations ...but they do have their place at times...

Paragraph indent would be good -- so would a list and bullet capability, but...
Reading Roadside Crosses at the moment. I'm going to become shy about personal comments and maybe a little editing on previous reviews. Brrrr.
