Audio Book vs. Print

There's a book in the system that I would like to review, but it is only listed as an audio book. Can I post a review under this even though I have not heard the audio version? I've looked around a bit and it appears that others have done just this---but I want to make sure before I do it. (don't want any of the white iPod vs black iPod discussions to jump onto books from the general epinions forum)

Thank you much!

Joy

Yes. Because we don't allow reviews of multiple editions of a book, it's acceptable to review the print book under the audio listing and vice versa. In theory (I use those words too often) if the paper book ever gets listed, the reviews will be merged and you will see all reviews under both listings.

RE: Audio Book vs. Print

I think it would be OK, as long as the title and author are correct. Sometimes the differing versions in the database get merged together :(. -Dave

Thank you! Now to put together a review. It would be my first non-children's book review. Yikes!

RE: Audio Book vs. Print

I think there is nothing wrong in it.

Usually I download my audio books in http://www.hear-now-audio-books.com and they are providing excellent books. I am searching a book called Salman Rushdie's "Midnight Children" if any one knew plz tell me.

RE: Audio Book vs. Print

Every once in a while the paper book is quite different from the audio version. I had a tough time deciding whether to buy the audio or the hard copy of Stephen Colbert's new book. I enjoy both formats very much, but in this case I know there are differences because of the layout of the hard copy (jokes in the margins, etc.) and specific things reviews mention he does with his voice in the audio version.

I ended up getting the audiobook because my time is so limited right now, and because his delivery is impeccable.

Separate entry for audiobooks?

I was wondering if there are separate entries or a separate category for audio books. I see the answer to one question was that I can post it under the print version but it didn't seem quite appropriate. I listened to a great abridged version of Seabiscuit I thought about reviewing but didn't see any place to put it. Thanks for any help.

The one narrated by Campbell Scott that can be found on Amazon..?? Through a convoluted series of clicks.

The category is . . .'jumbled' enough that you should not expect to find a specific URL for each version of any given book. Go with the generic one that google or the front page search finds first and tailor it to your specific product. That would be my humble advice anyway . . ..

...tom...

P.S. Damn those Red Sox for cheating us out of a competitive WS . . .or should I be damning the Rockies . . .or should I be damning the schedule makers . . .or the Phillies and D-Backs who let the Rockies slide in so easily and so early . . ..??

RE: Separate entry for audiobooks?

Sadly, Tom's advice is the best you'll get (sad because of the advice, not because of Tom).

If the content is significantly different, and that difference the major focus of your review (as can be the case when reviewing a specific version of the Bible, or a specific translation of a foreign work, etc.), then it may be worthwhile to request a separate listing be added.

But manually added listings usually fare worse in exposure and IS, so it's usually best to stick with the listing already there, and just make supplementary comments about the quality of the reading in the audio book, or the fact that it was abridged, or whatever.

I used to listen to abridged audio books, thinking that the unabridged version would be too long. As soon as I tried unabridged versions, I never went back though. Unabridged is definitely the way to go.

One book I did recently had a lot of recipes in it, and recipes in an audio book just aren't as useful as a printed book. It was unintentionally funny to listen to recipes that would never make, however.

I think I'd hate the job of reading recipes. That would be incredibly tedious. Are there full-fledged audio cookbooks?

I've never heard of any, but I did read a review about a book by an author who fills her novels with recipes and interweaves the plot into them. That might be fun in an audiobook format.

That was probably what I read... the author's name was Joanne Fluke. I was unimpressed by the book, although the recipes (mostly for pastries) sounded tasty.

There are some mysteries. I'm thinking the sleuth's name is Goldie, but I could be completely confused.
