Beddest Bedtime Stories to the most unWanted movies of 2008!

With 2008 now at a close, I'm wondering what is the Best and Worst of the films from throughout the year that you've chose? If you'd please, you may compile a small list (about five would be good) for your favorite together with your runner-ups to see what's been hottest and not-so-hottest throughout the past year. I'll start...

Best: (in no particular order)

Drillbit Taylor
Towelhead
Street Kings
WALL-E
Speed Racer

As for my favorite, that one would be none other than...

WALL-E! Although Speed Racer comes close and is very enjoyable, I liked WALL-E a bit better in the end. It's put together very well, and I very much enjoyed the experience. Perhaps my choice will differ later though, as I haven't seen too many movies from the second half of the year.

Worst: (again, in no particular order)

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
You Don't Mess With the Zohan
Harold and Kumar: Escape From Guantanamo Bay
88 Minutes
Step Brothers

I can seriously name more awful movies than I can moves that were brilliant (or close enough) for that matter. Having not seen enough films sort of puts me at a disadvantage. But, as far as the bad list goes, the worst of them all I'm going to have to name...

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor! Not only has the series lost its charm, its also lost its reasoning, some of its better supporting actors (where's the wife and the bearded guy?), and it's just completely lost all together. The story was very haphazardly put together. It doesn't make much sense, and of what sense there is... if you liked earlier Mummy movies, then this one's probably not going to have you rethinking your love for this terrible new direction.

I think that I'd go with 88 Minutes on the runner-up, for it too was a complete pile of horse doodie. After the 88 Minutes are up, I found myself asking, "What the fart knuckles?!" ;)

Wall-E will definitely be near the top of my list too! Dark Knight was also superb.

Others I really enjoyed were Austraila, Igor, Easy Virtue, Kung Fu Panda, Hellboy 2...

Of the worst, there were a lot of films I was indifferent to (Hancock, Mummy 3, I Am Legend, The Day the Earth Stood Still) - but the only two I remember actively disliking were The Golden Compass and P.S, I Love You.

RE: Beddest Bedtime Stories to the most unWanted movies of 2008!

some of my favorites and least favorites that I saw in the 2008 year

Best Action - Dark Knight / Iron Man / Hellboy II & the Golden Army / The Forbidden Kingdom / The Incredible Hulk (yes for me it was a good year for action, esp. comic book adaptations)

Best Comedies - Tropic Thunder / Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Best Childrens - Kung Fu Panda / Wall - E (good to be a kid this year, even if you are in your 40s)

Worst Action - Wanted / The Happening

Worst Comedies - The Love Guru / The Zohan / Step Brothers

Worst Childrens - Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D / Horton Hears a Who / Space Chimps

Most Disappointing Threequel - The Mummy Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (yawn - sorry Brendan not your year huh?)

Most Disappointing Fourth - Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Heh:) Your list is a bit different than people from the States--probably because of different release times (The Golden Compass and I Am Legend were released last year here).

Personally my fav of the year so far was Iron Man and I'm not really sure about my least.

I enjoyed Kung Fu Panda quite a bit and actually enjoyed You Don't Mess With the Zohan (hit and miss but...). Didn't see either in the theaters though. I enjoyed Bolt in 3D quite a bit but didn't care for Australia much at all (perhaps my least fav in theaters this year? I'm not sure really-I'll have to think about that but I think it is.

Honestly I'm a bit disappointed this year. After such a solid start to the big summer season with Iron man it sputtered through the rest of the season. Indiana Jones was a bit of a fizzle for me, Mummy 3 just didn't work The Dark Knight was all right but aside from Heath Ledger's Joker I don't seem to have enjoyed it as much as many...

I did like Hellboy 2 though. :)

Heh:) So Iron Man, Hellboy2, WallE, Bolt, Kung Fu Panda and maybe The Dark Knight for my current likes. Maybe that is my list if you don't count DVD stuff:)

Speaking of the worst films of 2008...

... how could I forget the awful Mamma Mia! and the even worse the cringingly, despicably, sickeningly terrible Clone Wars?!?!

BTW looked it up and Golden Compass was 2007. STill awful, but not elligible for this list!

:) Maybe. I've had a few imports from over there that I've listed at times (About a Boy came out here the year after it came out there).

A couple of other good movies that I've recently seen were Definitely, Maybe and Babylon A.D. Although, neither movie was able to top WALL-E.

RE: Beddest Bedtime Stories to the most unWanted movies of 2008!

We just saw Slumdog Millionaire.

I had no idea what it was about, just that it had gotten excellent buzz.

My friend, my son (age 13) and myself were all blown away. What an outstanding movie! My friend and I who are both film geeks were also pleased to see that this film has a nearly sold out crowd in a main stream cinema (one that usually shows the standard Hollywood fare) and was met with clapping at films end.

I was also glad that my son saw it, I had wanted him to see City of God to appreciate what he has and what others do not. This film showed the same purpose.

RE: Beddest Bedtime Stories to the most unWanted movies of 2008!

I'm still not sure what my favorite movie of the year is. I would say either The Dark Knight or WALL-E.

I also really liked Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Tropic Thunder, Bolt, and Kung Fu Panda. There are still some that came out in 2008 that I still want to see.

The worst I saw in theaters had to be 88 Minutes..that was just a huge mess. Righteous Kill wasn't much better in my opinion. I haven't seen some of the other movies that others have mentioned as being horrible.

I can't believe that such respected actors as DeNiro and Pacino could have released such crap as Righteous Kill. Pacino should be doubly ashamed since he also did 88 minutes. Saw 88 Minutes on DVD, and Righteous Kill at the movies, felt that both were a waste of my time.

I saw both of them in the theater..I still want refunds. I had hoped that Righteous Kill would be better, but I started having concerns when I saw it was the same director as 88 Minutes.

RE: Beddest Bedtime Stories to the most unWanted movies of 2008!

I finally saw Mamma Mia! I had a couple of laughs, out of situational absurdity. When Meryl Streep is busting out in tune to Pierce Brosnan at the end, I chuckled at the bored look on his face while he waited for her song to be done. Why does each character have to go into song just to explain one thing?

This movie is bad.
