Who puts you off...
... from seeing a film?
Personally if a film's got Gwyneth Paltrow in I now refuse to watch it!!!
I have a few more, but I'm not telling you yet - I'm interested in what anyone else will say!

Response part 1...
There are some actors and actresses I really don't think are that great, but I still watch their films anyway. I mean, if a movie them intrigues me, I won't refuse to see it just because that guy or gal are in the movie.
Some of my more disliked actors/actresses would include: Will Ferrell, David Spade, Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy, Morgan Freeman, Halle Berry, Hilary Swank, Freddie Prinze Jr., Steve Martin, Hilary Duff, Al Pacino, DMX, Michael Madsen, James Van Der Beek, Colin Quinn, Eva Mendes, Chris Kattan, John Travolta, and I think I'm going to stop there.
Most of the people I mentioned are from Saturday Night Live, as you can probably tell.
The reason I don't like Will Ferrell is because he's always playing these different roles which turn out very similar to his last. He's always screaming. He's always obnoxious. It's extremely repetitive, and extremely unfunny most of the time.
David Spade also has this annoying attitude. He's not loud or anything. He's just always annoying by doing stupid things, making himself look stupid, and has an irritating voice. I don't find his brand of humor particularly funny.
Chris Rock is always loud and offensive. Screaming out profanities isn't funny. You have to do so with style, and his style is very cheap.
Eddie Murphy's another SNL oldie who is weak in his roles. I think he's grown somewhat since the old days, but usually his movie I don't think are really all too funny and are not really that elaborate in production. He's usually in these simplistic comedies I mean.
Morgan Freeman I've never really liked, because he's this old guy in these similar roles. In a lot of his movies he's a fogey police man who's very serious. I don't really find that quality appealing, not even in Seven was he all that interesting. But his best performance of all would have to be in Million Dollar Baby. I really thought that was the perfect role for him, as he really surprised me there.
Hilary Swank also surprised me with the only role I've ever truly liked her in. The other movies I've seen Hilary in, which I think were only in The Next Karate Kid and Insomnia, I wasn't fascinated by her acting at all. She didn't do much of anything for me. Then again, those movies were pretty bad, especially Insomnia. That movie was so boring, I had to stop watching it all together somewhere near the beginning. |

Response part 2...
Continuing...Halle Berry I think is one of today's hottest actresses, but she's just not a very skillful actress I don't think. I haven't seen one strong performance from her yet (I haven't seen Monster's Ball, though). As Storm, it's just like she's there to be there. As Catwoman...blah. In all of her other roles, she's not awful, but she's a cookie-cutter actress.
Hilary Duff I've only seen her in a few movies, but she's just too much of a valley girl for me. When she's in a brilliant performance (which will, like, never happen, duh), let me know.
Al Pacino is one of my most hated actors. I can't see how he's thought to be one of the greatest actors of all times, when he does very little with his acting. His personality...I mean, what personality? I don't see him changing into this funny guy or something else. He's boring is what he is.
DMX cannot act. Enough said.
Then again, Freddie Prinze Jr. can't really act much himself. I've only liked him in maybe a couple of movies...Summer Catch and Boy and Girls.
I'm kind of bothered by Michael Madsen's scratchy voice. Plus, his roles are usually tailored to be a tough guy who just does a lot of tough talk. I don't see him as great in these personalties either.
James Van Der Beek, like Hilary Duff, is another one of these teeny bopper stars who really doesn't bring anything special to the table when they're acting. They're just there to look good.
The only thing Colin Quinn ever did on SNL I think was that news bit. I've never laughed once when he was reading the news. His personality is zero, and his movie performances get the same.
Eva Mendes I can't really seem to like her all that much. She's good looking, but she doesn't really seem to be that great at acting. In Stuck On You, she was too happy and silly. In Once Upon a Time in Mexico, she didn't seem to hit the right notes in her role. It's not that I don't like her...she's just more generic for me.
Chris Kattan is always crazy. He's hopping and bopping all over the place, like as if he's an escaped mental patient. If he were more normal, I bet he could pull off a decent role. Although, he also looks very unusual...so maybe not.
John Travolta is pretty much the worst actor to pull off bad guy roles. He can't be bad. He just can't And when he's good, he isn't even good. Well, he was decent in movies like Look Who's Talking, Lucky Numbers, and Face/Off. But other than that, I can't quite seem to like him that much. |

RE: Who puts you off...
Robert DiNero. I'm really not a fan of his and think he mostly does the same character. Of course for the most part this is true of any actor but...
Reese Witherspoon. I've kinda sorta liked a couple of her roles but bleh.
Cary Grant. He is just way too cocky and comes off as a jerk a lot of times. I suppose this might be a bit of sign of the times sort of thing but...
Geeze, I've got others but a lot of them are from specific movies. John Travolta has been getting on my nerves more and more lately (and I think he ruins films that he is a villain in more and more). Glen Close bugs me a off and on. Donald Sutherland used to bug me but lately I've been digging him. I kinda agree about Gweneth Paltrow. She doesn't really do anything for me. I don't particularly dislike her but am essentially meh about her. The same goes with Uma Thurman.
Oooooh. One actress I'm really not fond about would be Natasha Gregson Wagner who I think can't act to save her life.

Keira Knightly
Ever since Bend it like Beckham, this actress has made my blood boil. Pirates of the Caribbean was ruined for me by her, Love Actually would have done quite well without her pouting face and despite the reviews i've read i still haven't managed to drag myself to go and see her play Elizabeth Bennett in Pride and Prejudice. I don't think i could stand her wooden acting ruining my favorite character ever. What is it about this girl that just makes my skin crawl? Yes - she gorgeous, yes - she has a stunning figure, yes - she has that classic english rose/girl-next door look about her. But i still want to punch her pouting face. |

RE: Keira Knightly
You might just change your opinion of her if you do see P&P - I was really not a fan but she was good in that. Still not one of my faves, but I don't mind her now. |

RE: Keira Knightly
Geeze. I don't really think that she had any effect on Love, Actually's box office receipts. Maybe a slight positive one but... *shrug* I thought she was pretty in the previews:) I think the problem the film had was that it didn't really know what it wanted to be and all of the stories clashed against each other, some sappy, some tacky, etc. Personally I liked Bill Nighy's part but other than that the film didn't really go for me and even Nighy seemed to be in need of a different movie (and the body double thing was just goofy/exploitive). It felt like the film chucked a bunch of ideas onto a pot that couldn't hack it as a full length film and then blended.

My take on baaaad actors
I have to say I'm not a huge fan of Tom Cruise - he's always got the same schmaltzy smile and I don't like his lack of emotional depth.
also really despise the Waylon brothers joint ventures - they're just so crass I can't watch them....
Old Arnie is pretty woeful in everything other than Conan and Terminator, so stilted and type-cast.
Just my two cents. |

Brad Pitt
Brad Pitt is over rated. I see very little talent in his work.

I can't say I truly dislike any particular actor or actress but there are some who are not among my favorites. They are Tom Cruise, Demi Moore, Owen Wilson, Adam Sandler, Will Ferrell, and Julia Roberts. |

The only things I've seen her in are "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" - in which I presumed her character was supposed to be like htat - and Starsky & Hutch, in which I don't remember her at all. If she was similar to her WEGG performance that in every film then I can see why she annoyed you!!

RE: Who puts you off...
I don't like the following:
Cher, Vin Diesel, Paris Hilton, Hulk Hogan, Johnny Knoxville, Lindsay Lohan, Rosie O'Donnell, The Rock, William Shatner, Pauley Shore, Justin Timberlake.
Also, if the person started as a singer,I probably wont see a movie they are in. Many of those movies, seem to be a ploy to sell their latest album.
(Note: not all of the people I mentioned have been in movies recently.)
I'm sure there is more. I will make the rare exception if the movie looks decent. I've considered seeing Game Plan (starring the Rock), as it looks funny. I'll also make an exception if the person doesn't have a leading role.
