and the millionaires whine.......

I personally have never used any of these services, but I am absolutely convinced the recording industries attack is based on pure greed, and it also doesn't have a leg to stand on.
All Napster is is a forum for people to exchange music. Are you telling me (no matter WHO you are, even one of the jerks from Metallica) that at no point in your life you ever had a friend "make a tape" for you?
Exactly.
And odds are if you liked it, you'd buy the real thing as soon as you saw it probably. Copyrighting protects people from MAKING MONEY by selling anothers work. It does not prohibit making a tape for a friend. The internet is just a new venue for people to interact, and it's no different from going to a friends house to make a tape, only now you don't have to leave your house.
Besides, what has ever stopped people from taping off the radio? Nothing. It's just a pathetic attempt by a greedy industry and greedy bands to control every facet of our lives.
Ironically, if they do succeed, they will really be up against it, as that will only leave gnutella which, as a site where it is person to person interaction, they will have NO ability to control it. Then what will they do, what WILL they do?
What's next then, the IRS demanding a 1040 filled out for our yard sales?
Government and regulation is already creeping into our lives too much. I also find it particularly amusing that since Napsters creation record sales have INCREASED. Yet they're all besides themselves. It's just like when Fox tried to shut down the Simpson and X-File sites on the web a while back. Those things helped make those shows. I guess to be a "power broker" in this country the first thing on your resume must be "I'm an idiot". ("I'm also a paranoid control freak")
This is just another "Mr. Smith goes to Washington" deal. It would be nice to see the side with the power, money and corruption loose. As someone who buys what is vulgarly referred to as "new wave" music, I've never seen any US record label go out of it's way to make really great old stuff available to me, EVEN when the damn thing first came out.
So I say, F' em. The fight for Napster is a fight for us all. I hope we win.
