My list is the top 10 hip-hop abulms of all time not rap because that's the pur buisnes side of the culture. It's only goal is to make money and nothing more. Hip-hop music is the actual culture music it's the purest form of expression of the black people in my opinion. At first it was for the black youth not it's for the you in genarl because it's now world wide.
At first it was thought of as a trend now evolved as formidable force in terms of competition between other genres of music. I think in the billboard awards two years ago. HIp-hop/Rap genre earned more sales then any other genre of music.
My criteria for me to think of a hip-hop abulm being one of the top ten is as follows. 1.) It must be orginal innovative beats & lryics 2.) It must influence other hip-hop artists or the culture itself in some shape or form. 3.) IT must entertain but in the same sense inform. Hip-hop to me is all about knowledge of life. The struggle of black people and hip-hop is there outlet.
10.)Raekwon-Only built for cuban linx-It's a must for any hip-hop fanatic like me. Totally innovative lryics and beats. Pure raw hip-hop although it's about 5 yrs old. It's a instant classic The only con is that don't buy this abulm if your a conservative listener. If you want to here the common sound lryic & beat wise. It's requires a open-mind becasue the wu I believe is the group whoe revolutionized hip-hop sound and people may not be ready to accept this new kind of flavor.
9.)Notorious B.I.G.-Ready to Die- The first Brooklyn artist to go platinium and won the abulm of the year at the Source Awards.
B.I.G had a chrasmatic style he had a extenvise volcabulary in whcih he could ryhme hardcore and it could be totally clean without one swear. He certainly influnced other artist to emulate his style.
BIG also influneced hip-hop through the way he dress being fat but still can charm the ladies. He attracted alot ladies by using his class and charisma.
Similiar to Raekwons abulm he has good grimy rugged beats so the con is th same thing. It your taste is not hardcore hip or you like rap you shouldn't buy it.
8.)Big Pun-Capital Punishment- The first latin rapper to go platinium
Has intellgience not garabge lryics like other artist whcih are played out
Like rapping about money, violence, etc. Though he does talk abotu that in this abulm he's much more versatile. He has songs about love, ryhme abiltity, fake artsists, and simply loving hip-hop. He takes it upon his obliagtion to properly represent hip-hop becasue he resides at the birth place of it. The Bronx of course so you know that it's real hip hop.
The only reason you shouldn't get the abulm. Is since its a widespraed abulm not concenatring on one topic. People who like only party songs shouldn't buy it because its not a 100% party abulm. The same goes to the hardcore faantics etc. You got to be eclectice in the type of hip-hop you like then you should by the abulm.
7.)Method Man Tical- first member of the wu-tang that went platinum and that won a grammy. Had the love song of the ghetto "Your all I need" feat.Mary J. Blige. A song of a monagomous realationship between a man and woman. Revoltuionized the perception of man-woman relationship in the black culture.
The con is probably that the abulm is too short for me. I like abulms who are long in time length or in # of tracks. It just goes to show that nevertheless it's still a good abulm. I think it's only 16 tracks.
6.)Nas-Illmatic- One of the first well-known Queensbridge artsit that went platinium. A abulm expressing all the hardship of struggling to survive in the Queensbridge projects. About finally make it and teaching that black youth in the projects can make it in life.
If you like upbeat pleasant tranquil hip-hop music don't buy because Nas in this case his name is Nasty-Nas. hence the description of the abulm. It's his third and fourth abulms in which it has pleasant beats and songs of no more stuggle no sad songs etc.
5.)Dr. Dre-Chronic 2001- The multi-platinium producer who is also a pretty good rap artist. Represents the futre of hip-hop being multi-milion
enterprise. I think Dre is the best producer in the west coast. Buy the abulm and youll know why. It's the future of hip-hop sound and different ways of rhyming. Fast paced to matcb the ebat tempo and vice versa.
The bad is that most people think Dre is a overrated artist and producer.
They think he wnet pop and he let the fame go to his head. I disagree but if you agree don't buy the abulm.
4.)Dr. Dre-The chronic- The abulm I think is the tru classic of hip-hop. Presnets what we call west-ganstar rap which is hardcore hip hop. I think it put California on the map. If you don't like gangstar rap don't buy it because thats what it is.
3.)Wu-Tang Clan-Return to the 36 Chambers The underground group with a innovated style of rugged lryics and beats. Influnced people on how to dress. Invented their own slang shaolin slang. Put staten islnad on the map. Innovated hip-hop because their the only group to integrate Asian culture into hip. They loved kung-fu movies so their names come from them and the beats have the kind you see in the old kung-fu movies.
The mix really mad hip-hop national then to international because their all over the world. This is a monumental abulm. So the only reason why you should'nt buy the abulm is if you don't like hip-hop. Plain and simple.
2.)Wu-Tang Clan-Wu-Tang Forever- Sequal to the multi-platnium abulm 36
Chambers. This abulm turned the prominent underground commercail, but they still didn't change. it was that they made people lsiten to their music. I think the most ancipated follow up abulm in hip-hop history
1.) The first Hip-hop abulm of all time is of course 2Pac-All Me against the World.
The first double cd hip-hop abulm. 2Pac affected black culture just like Dr. King and Malcom did. The abulm is about black struggle domestics abuse violinece. But 2Pac has positve songs like "So many Tears" shows that 2Pac wasn't the mean violenet perosn that people though he was. He's the total opposite. He talks about forgivenss to God and how he yearned for a better life. The track that the majority would like is Dear Mamma showing the apprecaition for his mother. How she sacfrice so much for
Since it's my #1 abulm I can't think of nothing bad about this abulm.
Anyone who likes music in general should lsiten to this.(It's that good)
