HomeMediaMusicWhat Does The Future Hold For Napster?

Guilty, but oh, what a difference it will make

Napster definitely has broken the law, distributing copies of musician's works at no cost is strictly prohibited. These artists have given us their hearts and souls by recording their music and in some cases this hurts their sales. We go out and buy their discs only to find a couple of good songs on their disc, which really ticks a lot of us off. Napster now gives us the opportunity to get that song without getting their disc, which saves us a lot of effort and grief.

If I'm a recording artist I would begin to think, "maybe I should really consider my fans views more when I record this disc." These artists should also consider that Napster is doing them a big favor, by distributing their music to someone that may not have heard of them. This could bolster their sales dramatically, however Napster is getting hurt by those artists that are known and don't like their music being aired freely without them making any money. These are the greedy musicians we're hearing about. Their lawsuit could actually create a tidal wave of anger from us, the public listeners.

Hey, why should we support these guys when they don't want us being able to get a copy of their music without even paying for it? If I want to buy a CD, I want to know what I'm purchasing first. Many of these musician's put out garbage, once they've already made their mark in the industry. This is why Napster has become such a major event; this is what makes Napster so valuable to us and them. Now, the recording industry has their panties in a bunch and want to punish the site for their ground-breaking idea.

Perhaps the industry should back Napster instead of taking them to court. We know the courts will side with the recording artists, but what if the recording artists and Napster came to an agreement. Hey, that would be a great idea. It would make money for Napster and it would make money for the industry. It's something definitely to consider.
