Responsible lyrics? How about responsible parents???

I constantly listen to such musical acts as Nirvana, Kid Rock, Nine Inch Nails and Eminem. Then why I am not doing drugs, worshipping Satan or killing myself or someone else? I’ll tell you why - because my parents brought me up to know the difference between right and wrong.
I can think for myself without being influenced by musicians. There are a lot of people who were brought up the same way. Unfortunately, there is a
great number of people whose parents chose to let their children learn life’s lessons from music and television. And when the kids copy what they see in the media, their parents immediately blame the entertainment industry.
True, there are a lot of offensive lyrics out there that really don’t need to be said. But in America, they can be said. It would be nice if more bands expressed positive messages. Personally, I think it takes more balls to say you love God rather than to say you like to break stuff. But we live in a land of freedom of expression, which means that
if you want to swear or sing about sex and violence, you can.
It is up to parents to keep their kids away from potentially harmful material until they are mature enough to realize that these lyrics are the opinions of one person and they don’t have to be followed by everyone. Parents need to pay attention to parental advisory stickers. They should listen to what their children are listening to and find out just what is being fed into their minds. Parents can’t control everything their kids hear - kids will find a way to hear what they want. But making an effort shows you care.
And if you can’t stop them from hearing certain things, have a talk with them. Teach them right from wrong, and teach them that they can enjoy any kind of music as long as they don’t imitate any messages which go against basic values of morality.
It would be great if more artists weren’t so negative in their lyrics. But I would rather have that then be living under a government which prohibits people from speaking their minds and being honest. It is the duty of the government to protect our right to be honest without fear of persecution. It is the duty of all parents to decide what their
children are mature enough to hear and to take responsibility for their kids’ wrong doings rather than point a finger at an entertainer.
