Napster is just a search engine. Lay off Metallica!

I keep hearing about Napster in the news, which is what prompted me to write this epinion. I personally think this whole law suit business is a joke. I mean lets think about it. Does Napster store MP3's on their site? No! A lot of people are commenting about Napster on the local radio stations here in Dallas. What makes me so angry is these local DJ's have no idea what they are talking about. Have they ever watched or listened to an MP3? Do they even know what an MP3 is? How often do these people surf the net?
For those of you that don't know MP3's contain either a video with music or just music. Napster is a program that gives you the ability to search the internet and other peoples computers for MP3's. So basically Napster is just a search engine since they do not store MP3's themselves. Lets think a minute here....should search engines like Yahoo, Mamma, and Lycos be illegal? How about specific search engines? I use a search engine that looks only for resumes, and another that finds only pictures. Those search engines aren't illegal. How about a search engine that only looks for specific file types like Word documents (.doc) or Excel spread sheets? How about one that searches for the file type .mp3? I think you get the point.
If bands like Metallica and Dr. Dre want to sue somebody they can sue the people who's computer actually contain the MP3's being downloaded. No, they can't do that, sue their fans? Since the bands can't sue their fans they are going after the next guy they can put there thumb on.....Napster. After all how likely would you be to buy an album from a band that sued you? Go ahead Metallica sue me, I only have $300 in the bank any ways. Should I sue Metallica because I got hurt at one of their concerts? Hmmm if they sue Napster maybe I should pursue it. Instead Metallica should take a lesson from Cypress Hill and Limp Bizkit who are going on tour and putting on free concerts that are sponsored by Napster. And uh as for Dr. Dre, what a moron you wanted to get sue happy, but you didn't licensee that THX sound now did you? *LOL* Now you're getting sued by Lucas Arts for using the first sound ever copy righted.
The only people getting mad at Napster are the big greedy music artists. Napster actually is beneficial to the unknown artist. Think about it. The average internet user is still on a 56K modem. Since it would take a couple of days to download an entire album they are probably just going to download a song or two. If they like what they hear, they might go out and buy the album. So in essence Napster is putting money in their pockets, by giving people a way to listen to their music.
All Metallica is doing is making a bunch of their fans mad. I personally vow to NEVER SPEND ANOTHER DOLLAR ON ANY BAND THAT SUES NAPSTER. I HOPE YOU READ THIS METALLICA!
Now how do you feel about Napster? Should Napster still be sued? Please leave your comments.
