10 Dope Overlooked Albums
Dec 01 '00
Most of the reviews here are stating obvious Hip Hop Landmark albums. Here is a list of dope records which are not as common or popular. But you can't get fresher then this!!
-----------------In No Particular Order----------------------
10)Deltron 3030 - Deltron 3030 (2000) - New album on 75 Ark records, features Del The Funky Homosapien, Dan The Automator, and Kid Koala. This futuristic collage of dope beats and farout lyrics takes the listener on a fantastic voyage to the year 3030. Very "ahead of its time" beats and lyrics.
09)Chemical Brothers - Brothers Gonna Work It Out... (1998) - Some of you may not consider this to be a Hip Hop album, but it truely is to the fullest! This continuous mix CD fuses together some of the best Hip Hop, Funk, jazz and House. DOPE!!!
08)The Beastie Boys - Pauls Boutique - (1989) - Produced by the Dust Brothers, this is pure fun old skool Hip Hop at its finest! Contains excellent use of samples and originality.
07)Notorious B.I.G. - Ready To Die - (1994) - In my opinion this is the only REAL Biggy album! Slammin!! 17 track of true uncut Hip hop in its purest form. A must listen for new Hip Hop listeners.
06)DJ Shadow - Preemptive Strike - (1998) - Instrumental Hip hop collection of older Shadow singles. American version also includes "Camel Bobsled Race" , a 20 minute track remixed by DJ Q-bert. Dope chill Hip Hop. Wont make ur body dance, but your mind will move.
05)Main Source - Breaking Atoms - (1991) - Features Large Professor. Also NAS is first introduced on the track "Live at the barbeque". This album is an early 90's classic.
04)Masta Ace Incorporated - Sittin On Chrome - (1995) - Dope beats and Lyrics. Classic east coast style Hip Hop.
03)Hieroglyphics - Third Eye Visoin - (1998) - Extremely original album. Jazzy loops, surreal beats, textured rhythms, and the lyrical skills of the Hiero crew. What more could you ask for. DOPE!
02)De La Soul - 3 Feet High and Rising - Produced by DJ Prince Paul. This may be the most psychedelic Rap album of al time. The album ranges from pure street rap to strange ensembles. Features the Plugs, Q-tip and The Jungle Brothers.
01)The Prodigy - The Dirtchamber Sessions Volume One - (1999) - The history of Hip Hop from A-Z. Contains samples leaving you scratching your head saying "i know i know that beat, but where is it from?" This is a mix CD with barely any new music. But it comes Highly reccomended!
PS. I didnt put much thought into this Top 10 List. Just a few albums that came to mind. Im sure there are others id love to include in this list, but I just can't think of any right now. Just havin some fun on a friday afternoon @ work :). Peace to all those that know wassup!!
