Since I was 12 years old and bought my first metal album I have always looked back into my collection to occasionally break out the classics,so here are my top ten favorite heavy metal classics
Number ten has to be Melissa by Mercyful Fate. This album is definately classic. From the haunting vocal stylings of King Diamond, campy lyrics and incredible musicianship of Kim Ruzz,Michael Denner and crew,This is a must have for any serious METAL MANIAC.
Number nine is definately Iron Maiden's first album. The musicianship is phenomenal and the vocal stylings of Paul D'Anno are great. The guitar work of Smith,Murray and Harris is brutal and the song Strange World definately kicks some ass, this album is amazing.
Number eight is Metal Church's first album. This album is very heavy and helped define many band's sounds to come. The songs are classics and the song Into the Black is the bomb. The drums are killer and the guitar work is on fire with sick licks.A definate classic.
Number seven has to be Slayer's Reign in Blood. This album defined a whole genre of speed metal mayhem and the songs are brutal. The drums and guitars are blistering and the album lasts a little over half an hour. The track Reign in Blood is definately intense.
Number six is Screaming for Vengeance by Judas Priest. This album is a definate must have for any Judas Priest fan. The songs are legendary and the songs are rippin, from the song Fever to The title track every song just rips. The musicianship is amazing and Rob Halford's range is killer.
Number five has to be Terrible Certainty by Kreator. This album is damn brilliant.the songs on the record are classics and the vocals are very original and rippin. The drums are incredible, and the guitar riffs are very intense. The title track is the best off the record.
Number four is Black Sabbath's Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. This album is a Sabbath high point and Ozzy and crew really wrote some classic songs here.I really dig the songs Killing Yourself to Live, and the classic tune
National Acrobat. The guitar riffs are legendary and the drums are outstanding.Sabbath at it's pinnacle of fuzz soaked glory.
Number three has to be Metallica's Ride the Lightning. I bought this album way back in 84' and I was a kid getting my mind blown. This album highlights the late Cliff Burton's killer musicianship, and Lars' drumming was phenomenal as usual. Hammett and Hetfield wrote some amazing guitar riffs. I really enjoy Trapped Under Ice,The Call Of Ktulu and the classic Creeping Death. I love this one,and It remains a top favorite.
Number two has to be Symphonies of Sickness by Carcass. this album was the definate grind core album. The riffs and drumming are furious and ingenious and the lyrics are definately original. The songs are very tight and innovative. The artwork on the album is crazy, just turn it upside down! this album has some of the fastest drumming I have ever heard.
Number One has to be Illusions by Sadus. This album is a masterpiece in it's own right. Every song is heavy and emulates classic riffs.Sadus have been overlooked and they continue to be one of the best bands around the metal community. The drumming is classic, this guy is just intense. Check this one out if you are a definate metal fan, you won't be disappointed.
