10 Best of Early 90's or So
Jul 03 '00
We all know that hip-hop was at it's prime in the early 90's. Well, that's up for debate but back than hip-hop seemed more simpler and classic songs laced many albums. This doesn't include everything just a a few of the many. In no specific order.
Nasty Nas-Illmatic
Before he became Nas, before he came a Colombian Drug mogul, before he was covered in incyness, their was a Nasty Nas who was concerned about lyrics.
Wu-Tang-36 Chambers
This came when you could still count the number of members of Wu Tang. This was in my tape deck since it came out. Too bad I had to buy it and dub it like three times. This tape is on my friends most borrow permanently or steal tape. I don't think I'll ever forget seeing the Method Man video and thinking this group is going to do something.
Company Flow-Fun Crusher Plus
Not quite from the early 90's but this deserves to be here. Fun Crusher Plus is an underground hip-hop classic. I can only imagine the number of heads that were introduced to independent hip hop by this album.
Black Moon-Enta Da Stage
This album had the unforgettable: "Who Got the Props," "I Gotcha Opin," "Buck'em Down"...what other songs are needed?
The Roots-Do You Want More???
The hardest working group in hip-hop brought us "Proceed," "Distortion to Static" and "Silent Treatment." I think its requirement to see the Roots live at least once.
Common-Resurrection
With his second album, common (sense) showed why he's not the average/common emcee. The track that brought common to the surface is "I used to love H.E.R."
Gangstarr-Hard To Earn, Daily Operation
Guru has the voice, Premier has the beats.
Biggie Smalls-Ready To Die
A classic album. Too bad it lead to the rise of puffy in the music industry.
Pete Rock & Cl Smooth-Mecca & The Soul Brother
My favorite song on this "They Reminisce Over You" but this lp is filled with smooth, gangsta free songs.
Tribe Called Quest-Low End Theory
Did this album really come out almost a decade ago. I still remember when Check the Rhyme and Scenario came out.
