The only good guy you mentioned was Nas...
Dre can't even write his own rhymes, The Game sucks, Eminem okay, I guess...not greatest of all time material though.
Rakim owns everyone you mentioned. Ask anyone who isn't twelve and actually understands hip hop and you'll get the same answer.

Well Mike (Reply to this comment)

I don't listen to hip-hop or rap music at all. In fact, I avoid them like I avoid the latest Barbara Streisand... well.. anything (in other words, at all costs). Still, this was an incredibly thorough and interesting list you wrote here. Great job.

Phibes,
Damn, man, you're right--I can't believe I forgot Kurtis Blow.
I knew I'd leave off at least one person who should have been mentioned...

Very impressive list Mike. Informative and enlightening...I'm not too familiar with some of the artist's listed...only the obvious ones such as KRS One, Run DMC, Grand Master flash, Doug E. Fresh etc... Where's Curtis Blow?
Great Job Again!

Tammy,
Thanks for stopping by.
You know, Grand Puba rejoined the group for the last album, but I'm such a slacker that I've never gotten around to listening to it.

I was happy to see "All for One" on your list, Mike. That was one of my favorite albums back in the day.
And then Brand Nubian lost Grand Puba and they just sucked after that.

Great stuff, Mike. I know it is because I've never heard of most of this stuff! Will we add hip hop to your increasing list of things to be King of? Silly question, ain't it?! You go, Mike.

I hate you! (Reply to this comment)

How dare ye outshine me with your superior hip hop knowledge in my own write-off! I feel so small and insignifant compared to you. I bow down to you.
As far as Organized Konfusion goes, I too wanted to put a track by them, but was torn by Stray Bullet and Numbers, easily two of the most masterful exercises in conceptual lyricism.
I'm a little disappointed though that you didn't include that many '90s tracks as opposed to mine which was filled to the brim with them. You really don't think anything by Ras Kass was worthy?
Oh well. Looks like me and you Mike brought some real dignity to this write-off, you more than me. Thanks for participating, and here's hoping your entry into here doesn't outshine me in Income Share like your top hip hop album list.

Great picks, good to see the old school still getting much respect. I toyed around with doing a hip hop mix review (mine would be mostly newer school, 94-98 besides GangStarr and Run DMC) but when I started brainstorming I realized there's no way on earth I could ever narrow it down to a certain number without leaving out some gems and keeping remembering ones I should have listed....D

Re: e-rule (Reply to this comment)

Chewychin,
I didn't even know you could find the vinyl on Ebay...three figures makes sense, though. I had to download it off Napster and burn it on to a CD.
I do have a copy of the song's video, though. It showed on MTV Raps one night several years ago, and I happened to be recording the show. I never saw the video again, and I couldn't ever track down a copy of the single.
Anwyay, I'm glad to see someone else knows this guy--I was starting to think no one had ever heard of him other than me a few other folks.
