evansec's Full Review: Formica Blues by Mono (Trip Hop)
A friend gave me Mono's Formica Blues a couple of years ago, saying, "You like Everything But the Girl. You'll like this album." So I listened. And listened. And, well, I think every person who lived around my dorm room had memorized the album by the end of my junior year.
What can I say? It's got a sweet sound. For those looking for something electronic, but don't want the constant pulsating riffs of electronica superstars like Prodigy or The Chemical Brothers all the time, this album is perfect. Songs such as "Life In Mono" are perfect for studying to. And, you've got great tunes like "High Life," which are much more uppity, but in a happy, sunny way. The vocals of Siobahn de Mare will have you dreamin' for a good period of time.
The album is complete bliss. My friend was right when he said any Everything But the Girl fan would love this album. It's sweet, has memorable tunes, and will get anyone through a dismal day.
