Formica Blues is Monotonous.

by lambchops lambchops is a Lead on Epinions in Music, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 50, Jan 31 '03
Pros: Three good songs, lots of promise...
Cons: Too repetitive, lacks purpose...
During the mid-1990’s a new crop of bands appeared on the music scene. These bands, often hailing from Britain, were a blend of hip-hop, pop, and electronica and came to be known widely by the term “trip-hop.” Leading the pack were acts...

Just Don't Know What to do.... Ingenue

by dianalynnxk , Aug 01 '01
Pros: trippy, subtle, soothing yet hypnotic music in the electronica catagory.
Cons: none.
Last week while I was in Canada for the Depeche Mode concert I stoped by the Vancouver Virgin Megastore to pick up some CDs. I was merely perusing through the electronica section when this yello cd caught my eyes. Mono eh? I'd loved the nelle hooper...

Mellow Techno? It's Possible.

by evansec , Apr 20 '00
Pros: A different side of electronica, definitely.
Cons: Sometimes you do miss the pulsating techno beats of other artists.

Here's a little electronica for ya...

by Cahill , Dec 19 '99
Pros: Very smooth sound
Cons: Mono isn't a chart topping band... but then maybe that could be a pro too... hmmmm....
Mono play with a sultry and smoothness that only they can. They made they're debut on the "Great Expectations" soundtrack with the song-- "Life In Mono."

The songs have meanings that are not always spelled out in the...

Esoteric high quality chill out on a rainy day

by adamocerquetti , Feb 01 '03
Pros: A lighter side of trip hop; relaxing; nobody dislikes it; better than Goldfrapp
Cons: Sometimes bland & overly smooth; not quite dark enough for serious late night sessions
This is a lighter side to trip hop with a less stoned ambience than massive attack or portishead. Oddly, the style of Mono combines breakbeat with elements of John Barry (James Bond themes), but also has a slightly retro pop feel. Musically it is very...

Retro-cool, yet modern

by mwalters7 , Mar 06 '01
Pros: Beautiful, wall of sound music
Cons: Most intros are sparse and long
After hearing the track Life in Mono on the Great Expectations soundtrack, and then checking out another cool song via Napster, I decided to try the whole CD.

A great decision, since the CD reveals another side to Mono - besides the haunting...
