Sex, Salesmen, Guns and Paperwork

There is probably little reason to write a piece like this, save that it may lead someone to a great film that they have missed. With that in mind the following is a list of what I currently believe to be the ten greatest dramas of all time.
10. The Wild Bunch-
Director Sam Peckinpah (Straw Dogs) uses the western genre to examine morality, the nature of violence, and power. The visuals are striking. Death, in Peckinpah's hands becomes a grim ballet. The Wild Bunch, of course, includes Peckinpah's standard juxtaposition of violence and children at play.
9. Glengarry Glen Ross-
Based on the David Mamett play, and Starring Kevin Spacey, Jack Lemon, Alan Arkin, and Ed Harris, this film about salesmen is filled with some of the most stunning dialogue ever to grace the screen. This is truly an emotionally crushing film.
8. Blue Velvet-
David Lynch deconstructs suburbia. He exposes all the twisted weirdness and disfubction below the surface. And he did it years before American Beauty.
7. The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance-
John Wayne and Jimmy Stewart make this film a must see. The first movie to turn the western genre, and American myth, inside out.
6. Full Metal Jacket-
Stanley Kubrick's answer to the babal Platoon. FMJ is a brilliant look at how an average boy is dehumanized by war.
5. Whose Afraid Of Virginia Woolf?-
Based on the play by Edward Albee, this is a remarkable look at a couple in decline. Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton give the performances of their respect careers.
4. Manhattan-
Woody Allen's greatest film. Beautiful black and white cinematography and a moving story line make Manhattan a great film.
3. My Diner With Andre-
Two intelligent, well educated men discuss life over dinner. It shouldn't work, but it does. A marvelous film.
2. Lolita-
Kubrick's adaptation of Nabakov's classic novel. This is strange, slightly surreal, disturbing, and moving. Kubrick was a true artist and this may be his best film.
1. Brazil-
