TOP 10 MOVIES 1999

Mar 02 '00

1999 was quite a year in movies. It was a year of sequels, blazing originality, and definite surprises and letdowns. Below, are the top 10 films of the year:

1. "Magnolia"
2. "The Sixth Sense"
3. "American Beauty"
4. "The Insider"
5. "The Talented Mr. Ripley"
6. "Go"
7. "Tarzan"
8. "Arlington Rd."
9. "The Green Mile"
10. "Being John Malkovich"

BEST PERFORMANCES

Kevin Spacey, "American Beauty" - the best performance of his impressive career, a honest, grounbreaking performance.

Hilary Swank, "Boys Don't Cry" - the 90210 former star won just about every critics award in the country, and deserved them all.

Julianne Moore, "Magnolia" "The End of the Affair" "An Ideal Husband" "A Map of the World" "Cookie's Fortune" - with no less than 5 films in one year, Julianne Moore is easily the year's best actress, with amazing supporting turns in 4 films, and a luminous Oscar-nominated performance for best lead actress in "The End of the Affair," we can only imagine what this woman has coming.

John C. Reilly, "Magnolia" - he and Julianne Moore are the best things about the year's best movie, and that's hard to do. Reilly gives the best male performance of the year, it's a shame he won no acclaim for it.
