The most mediocre films of 99Jan 30, 2000 (Updated Feb 8, 2000) Write an essay on this topic.Lots of other bad movies came out last year but, lucky for me, I didn't see them. The Phantom Menace The biggest disappointment of the year - great effects and visuals, the worst dialog and plot imaginable. Runaway Bride The magic is not back. Unimaginative, unlikable characters. See Notting Hill instead. Simply Irresistible A huge waste of the talents of Sarah Michelle Gellar. I think it was written in 1983 and then directed by someone that was cryogenically frozen at that point and unfrozen to make this pathetic film. Never Been Kissed Nice premise, bad script, bad pacing. Bad. The Talented Mr. Ripley A throwback to the years when all homosexuals in cinema were portrayed as either homicidal or suicidal. It goes on forever, and manages to be disturbing without being in any way thought provoking. Matt Damon's portrayal of the main character is muddy and confusing. Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me Over the top in a really not fun way. I'm not saying that it wasn't funny in parts, but it was really uneven. Blast From the Past Yet another waste of some good actors. Funny premise (again) badly executed. The Thirteenth Floor Yet again, good premise, bad movie. Bad pacing, bad script, boring. Big Daddy An attempt to make Adam Sandler a loveable, Robin Williams type of character. It doesn't work. |
